Jimi Hendrix five-disc box set out November 16th

With the 40th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s passing this weekend, I figured that now would be a good time to inform you that the giant four CD/DVD box set, West Coast Seattle Boy – The Jimi Hendrix Anthology, will be in stores on November 16th.

The four CD’s contain previously unheard recorded and live tracks including music from from Hendrix’s pre-Experience days when he performed with R&B bands including Little Richard and The Isley Brothers. There are also rare acoustic recordings of songs like “Electric Ladyland” and never before heard songs like “Hound Dog Blues” and “Hear My Freedom.” Also included are alternate takes and outtakes of songs from Hendrix’s studio albums Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland.

The DVD is a 90-minute documentary called Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child. It’s known as an “autobiographical journey” as all the narrative in the film are Hendrix’s own words and are voiced by Parliament-Funkadelic bassist Bootsy Collins. There are also interviews with Hendrix as well as live footage, pictures, letters, writings, drawings and recordings that have never been seen before.

Leading up to the November 16th date, re-issues of all of Hendrix’s albums have been released along with Valleys Of Neptune, an album full of never before heard recordings. New live recordings and EP’s, including a Christmas EP, Live at Woodstock, Jimi Hendrix Experience: BBC Sessions and Jimi Hendrix: Blues will be available starting October 9th.
