Jim Morrison to receive posthumous pardon
During a Doors concert in Miami, Florida in 1969, Jim Morrison was arrested and convicted of indecent exposure. He was fined $500 and sentenced to six months in jail. Now, over 40 years later, the state of Florida will bestow a posthumous pardon on the frontman for the act. Governor Charlie Crist got enough members of the state’s Board of Executive Clemency to approve it.

The Washington Post reports that Morrison was appealing the case when he was found dead in a bathtub in Paris in 1971. The vote comes a day after his birthday, December 8th, when Morrison would have been 67 years old.
Keyboardist Ray Manzarek tells the Post that Morrison never actually exposed himself to the audience at the show. “It was mass hypnosis,” Manzarek said. “He was just doing a mind trip – as they would say – a mind trip on the audience and they totally fell for it.” What did happen during the show, according to Manzarek and others, was that the band arrived late, Morrison was drunk, a lamb was brought on stage and the crowd rushed the band on stage. Manzarek says that there are plenty of photos that exist from that night but “not one photo of Jim’s magnificent member.”
Some fans, however, swear they got a glimpse of little Jim. Lee Winer, 56, told the Post that he “can still picture it like it was yesterday…He actually unzipped and pulled his pants down a little bit, enough where you can see everything.”
Governor Crist had been considering a pardon for Morrison since 2007. This will be one of his last acts as governor of Florida.
