Kyuss Lives! to record a new album

You guys remember Kyuss, right? Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri, John Garcia and Brant Bjork, who came together to form a band that, years later, would get the acclaim that they wanted at the time. Well since those days, Homme has moved on to the stone age with crooked vultures but Oliveri, Garcia and Bjork have resurrected Kyuss as Kyuss Lives! Almost a mad scientist kind of name.

ANYWAYS, Kyuss Lives!, now with new guitarist Bruno Fevery in place of Homme, are planning on releasing a brand new album. Speaking to RockSound.tv (via Antiquiet), Garcia said that the “rehearsals are going so well that we’re thinking of doing another record.” He added that once he, Bjork and Oliveri finish working on their own separate projects, a Kyuss Lives! record would indeed be made.

So what about Homme? What about Kyuss fans that appreciated his contributions to the group? Garcia never even considered asking Homme to begin with. He said, “Even if we asked him to do it, I don’t think he’d say yes, so I don’t want to set myself up for a big fat no which is 99.9 percent [likely] what he would say.”

So the only thing that matters is what section you fall into. Are you a fan who wouldn’t mind 3/4 of the original line up coming together to kick out the Kyuss jams? Or are you a purist who thinks that, without Homme, there is no Kyuss?

Homme is as important as any other member in Kyuss, of course people like me would be kind of disappointed that he won’t be on the reunion, but obviously would buy the new album and see them live.

Yeeeaaahhh! I have often thought about how excellent a Kyuss revival would be. This is of course not perfect… nothing is. The absence of Josh Homme is not the only thing missing from an ultimate Kyuss reunion. Anyone who loves Kyuss as much as I do, and has followed the careers of each member knows that Garcia is not the only one blessed with great vocal pipes. I’ve often dreamed of an album in which John, Josh, Brant, and Scott Reeder all shared vocal and lyrical contributions. Think of this like a low desert punk version of the Beatles. Throw in Alfredo Hernandez, and that is the ultimate Kyuss reunion. This one is still worthwhile, but it still comes up a little short of perfection!
