Gorillaz reveal new character called The Evangelist

The animated world of Gorillaz grew recently with the addition of a new character called The Evangelist.

The drawing, done by Gorillaz co-creator/animator Jamie Hewlett, was inspired by a design sent in during a contest the band held. Fans sent in submissions of what they thought this new character would look like and the winning entry was from someone with the online name of jirouta. Looks like that guy is gonna be all the rage at his next social function.

But who is The Evangelist? At the Gorillaz website, a description of the character reads thusly:

“‘The Evangelist’ is the opposite of ‘The Boogieman;’ the light to his awful shade…’The Evangelist’ is a similar entity, but the flip-side of ‘The Boogieman.’ He/she may even be revealed as ‘The Boogieman’s’ avenger. His/her outer appearance is yet to be defined.”

You’ll recall that The Boogieman is the dark clad figure from the “Stylo” video who swallows up the policeman near the end of the clip. He’s also appeared in several images and videos as well. Could the appearance of a new character mean something new in the works for Gorillaz? Here’s hoping. But for now, head to the band’s website to check out their new album, The Fall, if you still haven’t done so.
