Watch: Rise Against – “Make it Stop (September’s Children)”
Rise Against has released a music video in support of the It Gets Better campaign to raise awareness about bullying. “Make it Stop” appears on Rise Against’s great new album, Endgame, which is in stores right now. Frontman Tim McIlrath says that the topic of bullying hasn’t really been addressed in the rock scene saying, “I decided to create the song as a response, and when I discovered the It Gets Better campaign and [It Gets Better Project co-founder] Dan Savage’s commitment to such an important and concise message, I was moved. I immediately felt that if our song is the road, then the It Gets Better campaign is the destination. I hope the synergy between the two can reach people and make a difference.”
The video shows kids from the LGBT community being bullied in a high school while the band plays in the gym of McIlrath’s old high school. A powerful moment in the video comes when McIlrath says the names and ages of kids who killed themselves due to bullying while clips of people saying that life does get better are spliced in. Well, these “high school students” in the videoclip are in their thirties, or something like that
