Puscifer releasing new album October 18th

Maynard James Keenan is returning to your record store this year but not with a new Tool or A Perfect Circle album. The new album from Puscifer called Conditions of My Parole will be out on October 18th, Keenan revealed to Spin.com. Keenan said the band is “still mixing, but it’s mostly finished,” adding, “Musically, it’s like Twin Peaks in the desert.” Nice!
The album was recorded in Arizona at Keenan’s wine cellar where he distributes bottles of his own Caduceus Wines. “It’s different writing music in the outback compared to writing music on Hollywood Boulevard,” said Keenan of the recording locale. “The Verde Valley has so much diversity. You’ve got stories of ghosts and aliens, plus republicans, democrats, conservatives, liberals, vineyards, ranches, horses. It’s hostile territory: You’ve got scorpions, black widows, brown recluse, javelina, rattlesnakes… and hippies.”
In fact, Keenan compares making and recording music to making wine. “Pieces are developing individually, then you bring them together and they either fit together or they don’t. Eventually when you bring it all together, it integrates, then you spend a little bit of time working on it, and then you release it.” And there are a lot of pieces on this album. Keenan recruited producer Mat Mitchell, Telefon Tel Aviv’s Josh Eustis, British singer/songwriter Carina Rounds, Jeff Friedl and Matt McJunkins from ASHES dIVIDE, L.A. songwriter Juliette Commagere, Bat for Lashes drummer Sarah Jones, and former drummer for the Mars Volta, Jon Theodore.
And once the album is released, expect to see the band on the road. Keenan says Puscifer will tour for two months and that there will be “a lot of changes and new approaches” to the performances. The band’s last outing had them playing the songs as if they were a country group and included taped and live comedy sketches. Keenan says this time around, “We’ll be doing a lot of filming and posting more videos online, too.” No dates have been released as of yet.
As for Tool and APC? Keenan says the latter “might put out a track or two” after their summer tour is over and Tool is currently “writing.”
