Detroit Lions fans to Nickelback: “We don’t want you here!”

In football, it’s a sin to root for another team in your division. Giants fans won’t root for the Eagles or Cowboys. Patriots fans won’t pull for the Jets or the Dolphins. Being a Bears fan, I’ll never cheer for the Packers, Vikings or Lions…but that Lions thing might have to change.
Fans of the Detroit Lions have formed a petition to change the band playing the halftime show during their annual Thanksgiving game. The band being petitioned is Nickelback…and this makes me smile. Because, seriously, fuck Nickelback. What NFL exec thought that band would be the one to embody the spirit of football on a day everyone watches the game? I’ll have eaten all the turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and pie I can and now you want me to barf it up because Chad Kroeger is on my TV?
Plus, Detroit is an amazing city when it comes to music. Iggy Pop and the Stooges, The White Stripes, Alice Cooper, Eminem, anyone from the Motown era…hell, I’ll take Kid Rock before Nickelback. Plus, this should also be an embarrassment for Canada. If you want to send the U.S. a band to play on Thanksgiving at least give us a good one. Rush would have been just fine.
I hope Nickelback fans take note of this and start to realize their beloved band isn’t beloved by anyone. And if the city of Detroit hates you then no one is really a fan of you to begin with.

Hey, I would agree that yeah they could probably find a better band to play but honestly Nickelback kicks ass live!! They’re extremely talented musicians and know how to put on a good show. I’d much rather see them then the typical Black Eyed Peas crap. Nickelback may sound somewhat “soft” on the radio but live they are much heavier than you would think. Don’t write them off just yet.
