There will be no David Bowie musical

I know, I know. You had your hopes up and were yearning for a musical based on the legendary tunes of the Thin White Duke and now they’ve been dashed, right?
Yes it’s true. Over the weekend, The Guardian reported that David Bowie and his camp had given permission to have his music featured in a musical called Heroes: The Musical which was written by Deep Singh. Singh told the UK publication, “We could not really believe it when they gave us permission.” Well it turns out they never did.
A press release was issued following the printing of the story that said, “Neither the David Bowie Organization, nor its co-publishers EMI Music and Chrysalis, has issued a license for a Bowie musical at the O2, as has been reported in the U.K. There are no negotiations pending for a long-running musical featuring the music of Mr. Bowie.”
This makes me happy. When did the idea come around that every rock star that had epic sounding tunes had to have them in a musical? I know ABBA did it and Green Day has seen success with it but that doesn’t mean every single artist has to hit Broadway. Well done for Bowie for standing his ground and making sure his songs aren’t sullied by singers who project their voices way too hard and neglect the emotion to replace it with broad smiles and dance steps.
