Listen: Metallica – “Just A Bullet Away”
Twice in one week. Metallica is really enjoying their 30th anniversary celebration…or just really trying to help us forget about Lulu.
Earlier this week, Metallica released the previously unreleased track, “Hate Train,” which was recorded during the Death Magnetic sessions. Well now we’ve got another previously unreleased track, via Blabbermouth, called “Just A Bullet Away” which you can check out down below.
Metallica said of this track and the releases, “We’re pretty excited to be bringing these songs back to life nearly four years after they were recorded. Once again, this is the unpolished version of the song… the original rough mix from March of 2008 in its rawest, untouched form.”
Members of the band’s MetClub had the songs emailed to them directly but since this is the internet, they’re essentially sent to the whole world.

I’m one of the select few who actually enjoyed Lulu to some degree. These two old new songs are actually pretty catchy, though I prefer ‘Just a Bullet Away’ to ‘Hate Train’. Still waiting on a decent full version of ‘Shine’…

Hmm… I liked Hate Train better, but both songs aren’t perfect. The riff in this, to me, was a little too repetitive.
Really liked the breakdown at about 4 minutes in though, sounded amazing, and really fit together with the ending of the song beautifully.
Also really liked Lars’ drumming on this, really shows he’s still got it.
A good song, but don’t know if it was album worthy, maybe they made the right call in not including it on Death Magnetic.
Oh, and again the sound mix of this sounds superior to the sound mix they chose for Death Magnetic.

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is excellent blog. An excellent read. I will certainly be back.
