Deftones recording new album this summer
Looks like we don’t have to wait very long for a new album from Deftones to arrive. Consider my blues of having lost the Mega Millions washed away….ok, not really.
Our blood brothers at Antiquiet came across an interview with Deftones frontman Chino Moreno with Chilean publication La Tercera while he was in Chile for a Crosses performance. Moreno confirmed that the band had not only finished writing new material but would begin recording on July 9th.
Moreno said, “I know everybody says this, but I believe this is the best record we’ve made. I’m very enthusiastic, because it sounds futuristic in comparison to our last one (2010′s Diamond Eyes), so it feels like a step forward.”
He added that this new album had a few comparisons to Deftones’ miraculous 2000 album, White Pony. “The songs are very different from each other, not heavier or slower, but more dynamic, going towards several directions; it’s heavy, but beautiful.”
We’ve got no release date yet but if they’re heading into the studio this summer it’s possible we may have a late contender for 2012 album of the year. Fingers crossed.
