RiO! Band of the Week – Broken End Stereo

For our band of the week, we head down to Tucson, AZ to give praise to the band called Broken End Stereo. They’re cool enough for you to listen to on your own, but also good enough to listen to with your girlfriend without making her think you’re less of a man.

An alternative rock band with a lean towards pop, this five-piece group would definitely be a perfect fit for festivals like Warped Tour and Bamboozle. Yes, they may look like models from the Hot Topic catalog but looks are deceiving when it comes to their music. They bring loud, distorted guitars charge with catchy melodies and hooks that’ll stick to your brain.

RiO! Band of the Week – Super Rocket Car

I’m proud to see that the title of Band of the Week comes back to New Jersey. It feels like it’s been a while since the Garden State has represented in our weekly competition but this week the band Super Rocket Car from Mountainside, NJ are king of the mountain.

SRC definitely fall into that “sunny day drive down to the shore” kind of rock. Not exactly Fountains of Wayne but it’s hard to not hear a bit of their influence in this young band’s sound. They formerly used to be known as Camping Equipment which sounds like a name you’d come up with for your first band that doesn’t go anywhere. Luckily they changed their name to something that mirrors their upbeat sound.

Head over to their Myspace page to check out some of their songs, pics and much more. Will these Jersey boys run away with the title of Band of the Month come the end of October? We’ll have to wait and see.

RiO! Band of the Week – Drugstore Fanatics

We got ourselves a doozy for the RiO! Band of the Week. They hail from Los Angeles and they’re known as Drugstore Fanatics.

Dark, moody rock with a Nine Inch Nails feel to it, Drugstore Fanatics also claim A Perfect Circle, Tool and The Mars Volta to be their major influences. It’s safe to say that they actually tap into those influences as opposed to listing them just to sound cool. You can hear it on their song “Hangman” which is currently streaming on their Myspace page along with plenty of other songs that will make you want to dance in a dark basement while grinding up against that sexy, kinda goth looking girl.

By also going to their Myspace page, you can download their debut album, What’s Born In The Basement, for absolutely free. I suggest you do it as you’re not losing anything and only gaining some great new music.

RiO!B Band of the Week – Keep Me Conscious

It’s a band from Boston that takes the title of Band of the Week and for good reason. They’re a young, unsigned band that’s working hard to get their name known. A rousing round of applause for Keep Me Conscious.

A band formed in 2009 with a radio-ready sound along the lines of bands like 30 Seconds To Mars, they’ve been keeping people conscious at shows at the CMJ festival in New York and at SXSW in Austin, TX in addition to playing over 100 shows in ’09. Their EP, Sounds Of Rescue, is currently available through their Myspace page. Go and check out their tunes, pics, videos and more.

RiO! Band of the Week – American Fangs

Our Band of the Week comes to us from Houston, Texas but these dudes aren’t any type of cowboys…because they’d technically be Texans fans right? I mean, isn’t it a crime for someone from Houston to be a Cowboys fan? Even back when their team was the Oilers? OK, now I’m ranting. Guys, make some noise for American Fangs.

There are a lot of ways someone could describe this band but I’m gonna stick to awesome. AF are a band that bring a sound that comparable to groups like Matchbook Romance and Every Time I Die. It’s loud, brash, upbeat and unapologetic. Did I also mention it’s awesome? Yeah I definitely think I did.

Go to their Myspace page to rock their tunes, videos and much more. Will American Fangs bite into the competition for Band of the Month and walk away with a victory? We’ll have to wait and see.
