At this point, the only reason I’ll put Animal Collective videos on the RiO!B is for a social experiment. I wanna see how many of you start to trip balls while watching this video stone sober.

AC comes at us with another round of insane visuals with their video for the song “Brothersport” from our #5 album of 2009 Merriweather Post Pavilion. Little kids painted up from head to toe whilst dancing with cartoon monsters? Definitely something I’ve seen when I accidentally ate those magic mushrooms at All Points West two years ago. Does that say something about my subsconscious?

Whatever just watch the video up top (via Pitchfork).

How easy is it to start a label? Because everybody and their mom seems to be doing it these days. We just reported on Billy Corgan starting his own label and now rocker/folker/beard enthusiast Jim James is starting one as well.

The My Morning Jacket frontman and his cousin/former bandmate Johnny Quaid have started Removador Recordings and Solutions which boasts to have “some of the coldest music you ain’t never heard!” Some of that music includes recordings from Johnny Quaid, James’ alter ego Yim Yames and, of course, My Morning Jacket.

In addition to being a record label, Removador also claims on their About page that “the removador recordings and solutions web venture will offer consumers a rich new way of web-based living specializing in music purchase, production, and facilitation, as well as sports, rehab, recreation, vacation planning, vaccinations, ghosts, and social networking.”

They also claim to have 3-D printer technology coming this fall where the consumer can simply print out food and auto parts (complete with liquid carbon silicone and flavor simulator) and simply use them in their home. Seriously can someone point in the direction of where Jim scores his product because that seems like some good shit he’s holdin’.

Weak! That’s probably the best way to sum up the news that Slayer had to cancel their American Carnage tour with Megadeth and Testament.

Buzzgrinder reports that Slayer bassist Tom Araya has continued having back problems even though he’s tried many different medical procedures.

Slayer’s manager Rick Sales commented on the situation. “Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot but they just haven’t handled the problem, so he’s biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month.”

While he hope that Tom gets better soon and has a speedy recovery, there’s going to be quite a few upset fans. But all hope is not lost as the dates for the tour may be rescheduled for this summer so hang on to your ticket stubs.

Meanwhile the band Megadeth is planning a U.S. tour for the months of March and April (via Blabbermouth). So one way or another the U.S. will get some form of live thrash metal.

It’s really getting to the point where Jack White can do no wrong. Which is why he’s become a topic that we bloggers must write about when he does…anything. So when he laid out his plan for records he wants to release this year, all of our digital ears perked up.

Our bros at Consequence of Sound (via TwentyFourBit) have pointed out that Jack will first be releasing some singles recorded by Wanda Jackson aka “The Queen of Rockabilly” via his label Third Man Records. Not a bad way to begin but stick with me because it gets better.

Jack will release, to those that are a part of Third Man’s subscription service entitled “The Vault“, two brand new songs from last month’s Dead Weather recording session. The songs, entitled “No Horse (Take One)” and “Jawbreaker (Take One)“, are a part of the new album the Dead Weather plan on releasing this year.

In a nutshell; if you’re not on the Jack White bandwagon then I suggest you get with the program and hop aboard, little buckaroo.

Leave it to Flea to come up with an amazing idea all in the name of educating the little childrens. NME reports that the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist has launched his own line of affordable bass guitars after he saw the crap basses that were being used by kids he was teaching.

Flea teaches kids how to play instruments at his Silverlake Conservatory of Music and noticed that the instruments the kids were bringing in were a bit sub par.

“The necks were warped and were falling apart. They were like toys. I wanted to make something that kids could afford but were quality, play well and last a long time,” Flea said. Since the bassist has put his name on gear before, he thought it might be a good idea to start his own line.

As to how the actual guitars would look, Flea summed it by saying “I’ll make it bitching and it’ll be cool!’ I just want the kids to rock!”

If all teachers were as passionate (and as awesome) as Flea, I think this country would take leaps and bounds in the world of education. Teachers need to step up and follow Flea’s example…play bass in a funky band and give a shit about the kids you’re educating.

Rock fans and musical lovers can rejoice over the news that Green Day’s epic album turned stage show, American Idiot, will take over Broadway on April 20, 2010.

It’s been announced that the show will open at the St. James Theater with previews starting on March 24th. So far there’s been no cast announcements as of yet. The show, which had a brief but successful run at the Berkeley Repertory Theater in California, starred Tony Award winning actor John Gallagher in the main role. It’s being directed by Michael Mayer who previously directed the show Spring Awakening.

I’m just curious to see how many tween and teen punks show up to the performance wearing all black with a red skinny tie and an armband clutching a bleeding heart. Not to mention with songs like “Wake Me Up When September Ends” and “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” in the show, this could also mark the first time people put their cell phones up in the air at a Broadway musical.

When the show was playing in California they made a trailer for it which you can check out here. Green Day also teamed up with the cast to record a Broadway version of their Grammy nominated song “21 Guns” which you can listen to here.

Is it just me or are a lot of rock bands starting to love the world of soundtracks? After the success of New Moon musical compilation, it seems that the way for bands to go for more exposure and probably more money is the soundtrack route. Case in point; NME is reporting that Muse may write the soundtrack to the upcoming film Clash Of The Titans.

Frontman Matt Bellamy spoke to the Daily Star about being invited to write the music to a film where, according to an early tagline, titans will clash (ouch). “It’s something we’re up for doing – it’s just a case of timing because we’re always on tour. Clash Of The Titans is the first interesting offer we’ve had for film work.”

“We’re definitely interested in writing for films at some point when we get a break from being on the road,” Bellamy went on to say. He also previously told The Ampersand that the music on the soundtrack would sound nothing like Muse’s music. No soaring Freddie Mercury vocals, Matt? I figure they would fit just fine on a story featuring Grecian gods.

Clash Of The Titans is out on March 26, 2010.

It’s like a google alert in my brain goes off when the name Thom Yorke is mentioned on the world wide web. In this case our buddies over at TwentyFourBit grabbed the inside scoop on a soundtrack that Thom is writing three new songs for.

TFB spoke with director Dirk Simon about his upcoming documentary When The Dragon Swallowed The Sun. The film is about the country of Tibet’s struggle to gain their freedom from China. Simon revealed that the soundtrack features three brand new songs from the Radiohead frontman plus a brand new song from Irish singer/songwriter Damien Rice and original pieces from American composer Philip Glass.

I have a feeling that we won’t see the last of Thom Yorke on soundtracks in the future. After the New Moon soundtrack selling tons of copies, I’m pretty sure he now looks at soundtracks as a lucrative opportunity. Plus it allows him to create his own music without attaching the Radiohead name to it.

Check out the website and the trailer for When The Dragon Swallowed The Sun right here.

We can apparently put another rumor to rest. Musicradar reports that Josh Klinghoffer, the alleged new guitarist for Red Hot Chili Peppers, has confirmed that he is the new funky axeman for the band.

Klinghoffer’s name came up in blog posts all over the interwebs after it was announced that John Frusciante was quitting RHCP and he was the replacement. The alleging has been made fact since Klinghoffer emailed the guy who ran his personal website saying that he was indeed the newest member of the Peppers.

Klinghoffer is no stranger to RHCP’s muzak. He was the auxiliary guitarist during the band’s Stadium Arcadium tour. So it looks like we’ll have to wait until January 29th for him to make his debut when the band plays a show in honor of Neil Young for the MusiCares tribute show.
