The Shins announce North American tour dates for Summer 2012

Your indie-rock dreams are coming to fruition with the Shins releasing a brand new album, Port Of Morrow, on March 20th. So how ’bout we make it a wet dream and throw in some tour dates and new music, eh?

Down below you can check out the dates for the band’s forthcoming Summer outing which starts on April 13th in Las Vegas, NV. They’ll be hitting up spots including the Coachella festival, the Sasquatch! festival and even traveling to Hawaii.

Also down below you can check out the B-side to the band’s newest single, “Simple Song,” called “September.” “Simple Song” and the B-side will be released as a 7″ on February 14th.

Listen: Tenacious D – “Rize Of The Fenix”

Just like the Phoenix…um, I mean Fenix, Tenacious D will rise again! Or so says Jack Black in a new track from the D appropriately called “Rize Of The Fenix” (via CoS).

It’s a short track that doesn’t even breach 50 seconds and all acoustic as Black sings about the band’s woes after their 2006 film, The Pick Of Destiny, was panned by the critics. But the band’s resilience continues to spiral upwards as we should expect to get a brand new album from Black and Kyle Gass in May. Check out the track down below.

Just a reminder that the D are performing at the Download festival in the UK and at the Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park festival in Germany this summer.

Your favorite guilty pleasure is back. The Darkness have just released a brand new animated music video for their brand new single, “Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us,” courtesy of Rolling Stone. This is from their forthcoming album which will be their first since 2005′s One Way Ticket To Hell…And Back. It’s expected to come out this year. Check it out up top.

Jack White releasing debut solo album, Blunderbuss, in April

Finally! We’ve all been waiting for this news to be made official and now it finally is. Our Lord and Savior, Jack White, will be releasing his debut solo album, Blunderbuss, on April 23/24.

You can stream the first single, “Love Interrupted,” down below. The single is available to purchase digitally on January 31st and on a 7″ vinyl on February 7th. The vinyl will feature the non-album b-side, “Machine Gun Silhouette.” and is available to pre-order at the Third Man Records website.

According to White, Blunderbuss was “an album I couldn’t have released until now. I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas.”

New ††† (Crosses) EP now available

The brand new EP from ††† aka Crosses, called EP ††, is now available to download at the band’s official website. This is the second EP from the side-project of Deftones frontman Chino Moreno and Far guitarist Shaun Lopez.

It’s a five-track effort that can be downloaded in two ways. For $3.99, you get the regular digital download which comes with just the five tracks. For $5.99, however, is the deluxe download which comes with loads of goodies. Besides the five tracks, you get your choice of high-quality audio format (320kbps MP3, HD MP3, FLAC Audio, Apple Lossless or Source WAV Files), EP †† demo seeds, a Hi-Res front & back artwork, a digital booklet and a 10 minute video documenting the makings of EP † and EP ††.

New Bruce Springsteen album, Wrecking Ball, coming in March

There it is, Springsteen fans. The Boss is coming back in a big way this year with a brand new album called Wrecking Ball and the lead single, “We Take Care Of Our Own,” will be available on Thursday, January 19th (via CoS). Check out the track down below.

Wrecking Ball alludes to a song that Springsteen composed for the demolition of Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. The album will consist of 11 tracks and be released in the UK on March 5th. It’ll be released in the U.S. on March 6th.

As far as what we can expect on the album, the Boss’s manager, Jon Landau, told Rolling Stone that “It’s a rock record that combines elements of both Bruce’s classic sound and his Seeger Sessions experience, with new textures and styles.” Furthermore, The Hollywood Reporter claims that the songs on Wrecking Ball feature “unexpected textures – loops, electronic percussion… influences and rhythms from hip-hop to Irish folk rhythms.”

Springsteen is expected to announce North American tour dates starting in March, according to Rolling Stone, including a show in Austin, TX during South By Southwest where he’ll make a keynote address.

Alabama Shakes releasing debut album on April 10th

Pay attention, everyone, because this is a band that’s going to claim 2012 as “their year”. The Alabama Shakes, a band I first heard about from Zach who runs the website We Listen For You, will release their debut album, Boys & Girls, on April 10th.

It’s definitely a southern style sound that mixes blues with country and, of course, a little rock and roll. What makes them stand out is frontwoman Brittany Howard who cuts through the music with a powerful and soulful voice that demands you listen. To prove my point, you should check out the lead single off Boys & Girls called “Hold On” down below.

If you’re still not convinced these guys are legit, our lord and savior Jack White produced two songs for the Shakes and will be releasing a special 7″ via Third Man Records later in January. Yeah, now you’re interested, right?

But right now, at Rolling Stone‘s website, you can download a new song from the band called “Prurien†”. Now I know some of you are a bit skeptical about this band so why don’t you give it a listen down below first. I think you’ll like it.

Lots of people are already gearing up for the new album from The Shins called Port of Morrow which is out on March 20th. James Mercer must have picked up on that excitement since a song from the album, “Simple Song,” is now available online for you to check out. And it’s pretty good! Check it out down below.

You should also know that the album will not only be released on CD and vinyl. According to Pitchfork, if you buy the album from The Shins’ website, you’ll also have the opportunity to get the album on reel-to-reel tape. So that’s something to think about…besides, you know, where you’re going to be able to buy a reel-to-reel player. But that’s just a technicality!
