Rock it Out! Blog holding an official Record Store Day party!

We all know that Record Store Day is probably the most important holiday of the year. Come April 16th, you’ll be rushing/standing/camped outside your local indie record store hoping to get your hands on some of the many, many exclusive releases set to come out that day. But after a whole morning and afternoon of shopping, you’re gonna need a place to unwind. That’s where we come in.

Rock it Out! Blog, along with our cohorts at Consequence of Sound and Some Kind of Awesome, are throwing an official Record Store Day party, which is also being presented by Looney Tunes in West Babylon, NY, one of the most kick ass record stores around that will have tons of releases on RSD, featuring some amazing acts that you need to know about.

Lady Lamb The Beekeeper, The Kickdrums, Midnight Spin and The Pass will hit the stage from 3-7pm at Fontana’s at 105 Eldridge St. in New York City and you get to be a part of the fun for a mere $10. It’s a 21+ affair since, you know, there’s going to be alcohol so get your friends together and make your way to our soiree that celebrates the greatest musical holiday of the year.

RiO!B/Axis of Audio are holding a party in Austin, TX!

You need a reason to go to South by Southwest this year? How about a party held by the Rock it Out! Blog and four of the best music sites on all of the interwebs?!

RiO!B, Consequence of Sound, Antiquiet, Some Kind of Awesome and TwentyFourBit have joined forces to become the Axis of Audio and we’re celebrating with a party on Saturday, March 19th at the Rumbler Lounge at 402 E. 6th St. in Austin, Texas. And just look at that lineup! The newest exports from Third Man Records, The Greenhornes, will be headlining the shindig. You’ve also got amazing bands including A Place To Bury Strangers, P.O.S./Astronautalis, The Gay Blades, Hollerado, Jukebox The Ghost, The Silent Comedy, Dirty Ghosts, Fences, Le Butcherettes, Sabrosa Purr, Ezra Furman & The Harpoons and God-Des & She.

You’d be stupid not to come to this party as everyone will be there: your drunk uncles, Grandma with the gambling addiction and your hot cousin from Tennessee. Plus, like any good party, there will be food and drink a plenty. Come celebrate with the newly formed Axis of Audio from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. You can RSVP for the party right over here so you don’t get left out. Guys, I can finally reveal the information about a party I’ve put together for the week of CMJ. I give you…the Rock it Out! Blog Officially Unofficial CMJ Super Show!

Cool poster, right? Anyways, so here’s the deal. Friday, October 22nd from 7pm – 1am is the night you drink, dance, sing, scream, jump, make love and make war while six incredibly talented bands rock your fucking socks off. All you need is a mere $10 bill and your ID (21+ only for this shindig) and you’re granted entry into what could be the most kick-ass time of your life…or at least of that weekend. Fontana’s NYC at 105 Eldridge St. in Manhattan is the spot it all goes down at. We’ve built a Facebook page for this event so you can RSVP. Bring your friends, family, neighbors, pets and enemies along with you. We literally want to rock the roof off this joint.

RiO!B and Consequence of Sound’s SXSW Party!

There’s a party happening in Austin, TX at SXSW this year and the Rock it Out! Blog, along with the always amazing website Consequence of Sound, are throwing a party of indie-tastic proportions!

It’s an incredible lineup featuring bands like You Say Party! We Say Die!, Sweet Apple (which is a brain child of J. Mascis from Dinosaur, Jr.), Hurricane Bells, Surf City and a whole lot more! It’s all happening at Republic Live which has a capacity of 500 people so let’s pack that place! It all takes place on March 19th and the best part is it’s a free show!

The festivities kick off at 12pm and will go til about 6pm. There’s gonna be free food, liquor and, of course, amazing music. I’m beyond excited for this party and I’m stoked that I get to have it with CoS. It’s going to be an amazing time and I hope all of you can attend! The Smashing Pumpkins – “A Song For A Son”

We finally got the new Smashing Pumpkins that Billy Corgan promised would be out around Halloween. Better late than never I guess.

Down below you’ll be able to hear the new tune called “A Song For A Son” which is the first of 44 new songs in the Smashing Pumpkins project called “Teargarden By Kaleidyscope”. All of the songs will eventually be available for free on the band’s website and they’ll also be put into four 11-song EP’s complete with artwork and packaging that you’ll be able to purchase. “A Song For A Son” is currently available for download.

This song (a ballad really) seems fitting as a first track for a massive project like this. Especially since Billy keeps repeating the line “I am one of many/many more to come.” Seems as if he’s letting you know that the Pumpkins are just getting started.

New Moon soundtrack leaks

The album that you really want to buy but don’t want anyone to know that you own has leaked onto the interwebs. I’m talking about the soundtrack for the film New Moon.

Chalk full of original songs by indie-rock royalty, the soundtrack is this year’s equivalent to the Garden State soundtrack except instead of Natalie Portman and a good movie you get Kristen Stewart and an awful movie. But the music is still damn good.

Bands like Muse, The Killers, Band of Skulls, OK Go, Grizzly Bear and artists like Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, St. Vincent and more take you through a world where vampires listen to really cool bands and probably suck PBR out of a can with their fangs. New Moon soundtrack looks damn good

I am not a fan of Twilight. The books, the movies, the whole idea. I just never saw the appeal. However the soundtrack for the upcoming Twilight sequel, New Moon, may be a record that makes it into my collection.

Indie-rock fans are probably jizzing their skinny jeans over the recent announcement of the tracklisting for the soundtrack (via Consequence of Sound) that will accompany pale vampires on screen.

Bands like Band of Skulls, Bon Iver & St. Vincent, Grizzly Bear, The Killers, Thom Yorke of Radiohead and more will be contributing to what could be the coolest looking soundtrack I’ve seen in a good long while. Will this make me go see the movie? Not a chance but I will hit up my record store for a copy of this album. The full tracklisting is down below. Prepare to be wowed.

Thom Yorke – Apart By Horses/The Hollow Earth

What kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t post the two new solo pieces from Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke? A blogger that would have cream pies thrown in his face.

That being said, check out Thom Yorke’s first song “FeelingPulledApartByHorses” up top. It’s a jam that’s over seven minutes long but it’s worth every second. Down below, you can check out the music video for Thom’s other song “The Hollow Earth”. It’s been rumored that this song may be the one he contributes to the New Moon soundtrack and if that’s the case then the movie is gonna be an interesting one (or at least the scene it’s used in.)

The songs are available online at Radiohead’s w.a.s.t.e shop on October 6th. If you pre-order the vinyl records, then you get a complimentary download. Head on over to Stereogum if you guys wanna see some album artwork.

Rock it Out! Birthday party!

Attention rocker nation! It’s party time! But it’s not just any party. It’s the once a year Rock it Out! birthday party celebrating my birthday and my partner Courtney’s birthday as well. Details are up top in the grainy Facebook video or you can read on down below.

It’s all goin down at Fontana’s at 105 Eldridge St. in NYC on August 28th and the doors open at 8pm. We’ve got four bands playing the party and they are the following:

23 To Sparta – 9:00pm (That’s my band!)
Bottle Up and Go – 10:00pm
J.A.C.K. – 11:00pm
Chylde – 12:00am

It only costs $8 to get in and we the only gifts we want are for you and all your friends to come rock out with us. Rock music, booze and I heard there may be birthday cake. If that’s not enough of a reason for you to come then I don’t know what is.

Hope you all can come out and help me officially celebrate our birthdays.

Rock it Out! Blog party (part deux)

Attention all members of the RiO!B nation. The Rock it Out! Blog is proud to announce our second party since the first one was such a success!

The party is happening on Wednesday June 17th at The Delancey in NYC. It all kicks off at 7pm. 21+ to enter and there’s a $7 cover charge. We’ve got six great bands lined up for the evening and they are the following:

9pm – The Non-Existent Year
10pm – The Ambassadors
11pm – Cavalier Rose
12pm – A Love Like Pi

Hopefully you guys come on out. It should be a great time for all in attendance. Loud rock music, alcohol and the Blog? How could it not?!
