Dave Grohl has got some of the coolest friends in the world. How do I know? Because they’re all in his new documentary.

Down below is the trailer for a doc called Sound City which was directed by the Foo Fighters frontman and focuses on Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, CA. The studio was shut down in 2011 but not before some of the biggest names in rock recorded some legendary albums including Nirvana’s Nevermind.

Grohl said of the studio, “That place was like a church. The list of people that recorded there is like a virtual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That funky old place had the best drum room in the world. The drum sound at the beginning of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit?’ That’s Sound City. I decided to make a film about that feeling when you put five guys in a room, hit ‘record’ and the hair on the back of your neck stands up. Expect some epic jam sessions.”

So who are some of Grohl’s friends in this film? Try Trent Reznor, Joshua Homme, Mick Fleetwood, Tom Petty, Lars Ulrich, Krist Novoselic, Alain Johannes, Cheap Trick, Corey Taylor, Butch Vig, Vinnie Appice, Barry Manilow, Frank Black, Taylor Hawkins and a whole lot more.

There’s no release date set for the film yet but you should put this on your “I’m fucking seeing this when it comes out” list.
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who was involved in a car accident in November of 2008 that left him in a vegetative state, is continuing to show signs of improvement and has even awoken from a semi-comatose state. Down below, you can check out a video of Cheng being able to raise his leg on command. It’s a hopeful sign but he’s not out of the woods yet. He still can’t communicate verbally but can open his eyes from time to time and see and hear things around him.

Cheng is currently in a facility in New Jersey seeking treatment but the rising costs are becoming a burden on his family. The treatment will cost $250,000 and his family only has around $17,000. Your donations and well-wishes continue to be accepted at OneLoveForChi.com. Let’s continue to help a fallen rocker get back on his feet.

The second solo album from Slash is set to be released on May 22nd via his own label, Dik Hayd International. While the album has no title or track listing yet, it will only feature his touring band this time including Alter Bridge guitarist Myles Kennedy, drummer Brent Fitz and bassist Todd Kerns. Down below, you can check out video of the band working together in the recording studio.

Unlike his debut album, which featured a different singer on almost every track, Slash explained in an interview that this album was all done in house. “Myles and I basically collaborated on the new material. The main thing is we wrote these songs together which is a big difference from the last album where I wrote each song with all of the different collaborators. The whole creative nucleus is between Myles and me. On top of this, the whole rhythm section of Brent and Todd brings something to the table and changes the dynamic completely from the last record–it’s much more cohesive.”

Yeah you just read the headline and probably started shaking your fist and screaming. Calm down, son, it’s not bad news at all.

Rolling Stone has confirmed that American Idol alum Adam Lambert will be the new frontman for the legendary rock band Queen. Now I know some young, ignorant rock fans will shriek in horror at this news and will call for Lambert to perish in a terrible way while pining for the spirit of Freddie Mercury to return to earth and take his rightful place at the microphone.

Well guess what? We all miss Mercury but he’s dead. Stone. Fucking. Dead. And nothing is going to bring him back no matter how hard you wish for it to happen. So deal with it.

Besides, Lambert even said in an interview with The Daily Star that he has no plans of trying to replace Mercury. He said, “The way I’m choosing to view it is that it’s a great honor and one I’m in no way going to shirk.” He added, “The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f—g great songs. It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of.”

Not to mention that Queen has already performed with Lambert on American Idol and at the MTV EMA’s in Belfast in 2011. And he was pretty damn good. Don’t believe me? Watch the video below, hater.
Slipknot’s own Corey Taylor and Shawn “Clown” Crahan have decided to go into the movie business. The first thing they did, like all aspiring film moguls, is create a short film and then, naturally, go to the Sundance Film Festival with it and show it off to all the other Hollywood emperors of film. Now us common folk get to see the film too.

Up top is the short film from Taylor and Crahan’s production company, Living Breathing Films, called Thy Shalt I. Do you think this duo has what it takes to rule Hollywood with their films? Watch and find out.
The band, which included the return of frontman Scott Weiland, played the songs “Sucker Train Blues, “She Builds Quick Machines,” “Slither” and a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.” Up top, you can check out the band’s performance of “Sucker Train Blues” (via Blabbermouth).

So does the return of Weiland mean that VR will finally start recording with their original singer? Guitarist Dave Kushner told Rolling Stone, “We haven’t played together in four years, and so we’re really just like, ‘Let’s see how this goes.’” He added, “I know everyone’s got other commitments, but I think everyone’s like, ‘Let’s get this thing done and get through this and then we’ll see.’”
Amidst all the hoopla regarding the Coachella line up that was released yesterday, another major story was spawned from the announcement; Refused is reuniting!

It was crazy to think that not only would Coachella audiences get a reunited At The Drive-In but also see the return of an amazing band such as this one. They recently posted a statement on their website regarding their forthcoming shows and their reunion:

It’s been a motley 14 years since our band came apart. We’ve all kept busy in our respective endeavors but we’ve all remained friends and kept in touch. There have been offers, and lots of jokes about these offers. We’ve sort of looked down from our high horses and made fun of people who’ve just wanted to share the psychopathic intensity that we would deliver on a nightly basis in our post-pubescent prime. A reunion has just seemed irrelevant to us. Too much other shit to do.

But then Kristofer got his degree from the Swedish opera academy, Jons medical studies began drawing to a close and Dennis and David started a new hardcore band together. Finally, after a decade and a half hiatus, Kristofer picked up the guitar again. Which made David want to play the drums again. Which in turn led to all four of us suddenly making new music in assorted constellations. As all this was brewing, Coachella got in touch. There were a couple of phone-calls, lots of skepticism, some hesitant enthusiasm before one of us basically said: “– This is ridiculous. There are friends of ours who would murder close relatives just to go see bands there. Let’s just do it, one last time.” And with that, socialist fag-loving pc scumbags were on the road again.

We never did The shape of punk to come justice back when it came out, too tangled up in petty internal bickering to really focus on the job. And suddenly there’s this possibility to do it like it was intended. We wanna do it over, do it right. For the people who’ve kept the music alive through the years, but also for our own sakes.

We feel that you deserve it and we hope the feeling is mutual.

See you in the pit.

The band will play both weeks of Coachella and are playing the Way Out West festival in their homeland of Sweden which runs from August 9-11. There’s no word on whether they’ll play any more shows this year. But I think it’s safe to say that the feeling is definitely mutual.
In case you guys were too busy watching the boring as all hell LSU/Alabama Championship game or maybe even The Bachelor, you missed Jack White on TV last night.

The Third Man Records CEO appeared on American Pickers on the History channel and was seen bargaining for a elephant head. The show went to Third Man in Nashville, TN and saw hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fitz working out a deal for the head in exchange for some good from the label. Looks like Jack White knows how to haggle.
