The Lollapalooza festival isn’t that far away. It takes place on April 2-3 and…it’s in Chile? Well that’s certainly nowhere near Chicago.

Lollapalooza Chile, which is an offshoot of Perry Farrell’s Windy City-based summer music festival, is being held for the first time in Santiago and the line up is quite stellar (via CoS). The Killers are coming off hiatus to headline the fest along with Jane’s Addiction, Kanye West, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, 30 Seconds To Mars, Deftones, The Flaming Lips, The National, 311 and more.

If you’ve got 13 minutes to kill, 30 Seconds To Mars has a ~~bondage video~~ music video for their song “Hurricane” that they’d like to show you.

MTV.com posted the video which has got a lot of elements to it including life, death, bondage, sex, violence, bondage, motorcycles, sledgehammers, bondage and…bondage. In fact, frontman Jared Leto posted a letter from an unnamed network saying they wouldn’t air the video unless parts of it were edited to fit their programming model. Hence the reason the word censored appears over some scenes and pink censor bars cover up certain parts of the ladies. Not to worry, however, as he recently tweeted that an uncensored version is coming soon.

“Hurricane” appears on the band’s album, This Is War, and the deluxe edition which includes a verse from Kanye West.

30 Seconds To Mars release 2011 tour dates

30 Seconds To Mars have announced dates in January and February for a tour throughout the U.S.

The band will kick off their stay in the U.S. by playing at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve. Following that, their tour kicks off on January 11th in San Diego and will end on February 5 in Wallingford, CT. Tickets go on sale November 19th at both Ticketmaster.com and Livenation.com.

The tour is being sponsored by HP which will also play a part in the fan experience of the tour. By going here, you can upload a photo as to why you’re the biggest 30 Seconds To Mars fan and it will be printed on the band’s HP printer. The fan they deem the most loyal will get an opportunity to meet and greet the band at their show in Atlanta, GA.

As for the band’s music, they’re releasing a music video for the song “Hurricane 2.0″ which features Kanye West. There’s no date as to when the video will be out but it should be soon. You can see a trailer for it here.

Over in Madrid, Spain, the MTV European Music Awards took place earlier today. One of the highlights that took place, as you’ll see by clicking play up top, was a 30 Seconds To Mars performance of their song “Hurricane” that included a verse from Kanye West.

But that wasn’t all Jared Leto had in store for all the Spaniards in attendance. After Kanye’s verse, Leto got the crowd to make some noise for ‘Ye as the beat for his new song, “Power,” starting playing. The rapper then proceeded to drop some lyrics from the new track which will appear on his forthcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which is out November 22nd.

You should also know that 30 Seconds also has a deluxe edition of their new album, This Is War, out on November 9th. It includes the version of “Hurricane” with Kanye along with a DVD of music videos and behind the scenes featurettes.

Rock music winners at the VMA’s

There was a pro and a con to my watching this years VMA’s. The pro was that I actually got paid to watch them. The con was that I had to watch every second of the shambles of an award show that MTV presented.

But, being the rock music writer that I am, it is my duty, as much as it pains me, to report on the rock music happenings at this years ceremony. Luckily there wasn’t much on the rock front so this will be relatively short.

30 Seconds To Mars took home Best Rock Video for “Kings And Queens” while Muse took Best Special Effects for “Uprising” and Florence + The Machine (who put on one of the best performances of the night) took the award for Best Art Direction for “Dog Days Are Over.”

On the performance front, we had to sit through Linkin Park play their awful new single, “The Catalyst.” Granted, they played the song at the Griffith Observatory which had some of the best scenery but was muddled by the sub-par techno music blasting from the band. I was hoping someone would pull a Kanye West and interrupt their set just so we could move on. The always lovely Hayley Williams performed “Airplanes” with rapper B.o.B and then segued her duet into a short performance of “Only Exception” with Paramore.

For me personally, I thought the best parts of the show were Deadmau5 DJing, Kanye West’s performance of the new song, “Runaway,” and seeing J-Woww in a bikini. Other than that…yeah, you couldn’t ask me to watch another VMA ceremony even if you paid me. Well, ok, MAYBE if you paid me then I might…but I still won’t like it.

30 Seconds To Mars, Paramore, Muse and more are up for MTV VMA’s

I’m no fan of MTV by any means. I probably won’t even watch the VMA’s this year unless I know some shit is gonna go down…which means Kanye will probably be at the awards this year. But I still give credit where it’s due when it comes to bands who are being nominated.

Even though videos are no longer played on the channel formerly known as Music Television, they have nominated bands for different video categories. For Video of the Year, 30 Seconds To Mars and their video for “Kings And Queens” is up against Lady Gaga, Eminem, B.O.B. and, in a surprising move, Florence + The Machine. Which means Lady Gaga will win because awards always go to the most popular kid, right?

For Best Rock Video, 30 Seconds To Mars goes up against MGMT, Paramore, Muse and Florence + The Machine. How many people who watch MTV even know who Florence + The Machine is? I’m not taking anything away from them but you really think 13-year-old girls who watch Jersey Shore are going to know one of their songs? I seriously doubt it.

All the nominees can be seen at MTV.com and the VMA’s air on September 12th at 9pm EST. If anything should happen during the award show, someone let me know about as I’ll probably be watching football that night.
