Is this the cool thing to do now in rock? Come out with your own novelty board game in the hopes that people will actually play board games again because your band put it out? Metallica just released its own version of Monopoly and now it looks like AC/DC have jumped on that train.

Blabbermouth reports that August has been set for the tentative release date of the game. The six game pieces you get to choose from echo classic AC/DC songs: Cannon (“For Those About To Rock”), Bundle of Dynamite (“T.N.T.”), Bell on Fire (“Hells Bells”), Lightning Bolt (“Thunder Struck”), Angus’s School Boy Hat (“School Days”), Stacks of Cash (“Money Talks”).

So AC/DC will now join Metallica along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, The Grateful Dead and Kiss as a band that has their own Monopoly game. For those about to pass Go, we salute you!

A lot of award shows are shit…ok, I take that back. ALL award shows are shit. Yet, we watch a few of them so that we have something to complain about the next day. Whether it’s our favorite band getting passed over, a movie we think should win doesn’t win or somebody gets real drunk and runs on stage to make an ass of themselves, we’ll find something to discuss. But the American Music Awards are a complete waste of an award show. They’re almost as bad as the People’s Choice awards. Yet I’m inclined to write about it because some good bands (not many) have been nominated for this year’s AMAs. But whoever wins, it’ll still be nothing to brag about.

In the only category that actually has bands in it, Favorite Alternative Rock Act, the three that were nominated are Muse, Phoenix and Vampire Weekend. My guess is that Muse will win because the other two are “too indie” for mainstream American crowds. Also, in the Favorite Soundtrack category, AC/DC’s Iron Man 2 soundtrack goes up against The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack which features songs from Muse, Vampire Weekend, The Black Keys, The Dead Weather, Metric and more.

Honestly, if any award show ever needed a moment where someone pulled a Kanye West, this would be the one. But if you’re actually interested in watching, or you’re just that bored, it airs on Sunday, November 21st on ABC at 8:00 p.m. EST.

Football season is back in full swing which means it’s time for me to buy one of two video games I get every year. Madden ’11 (with Drew Brees on the cover…he better not be cursed now) is out on August 10th and, on top of being a kick-ass game, will also feature a pretty solid rock soundtrack.

This year’s game includes tracks from AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Ozzy Osbourne, The Hives, Blur, Kiss and even Todd Rundgren. Plus there are also cover version’s of songs done by Queen, Gary Glitter and Joe Satriani.

Previous games have been a springboard for bands to gain some notoriety. Jet, Franz Ferdinand, Wolfmother, Avenged Sevenfold, Sevendust and more are just a few of the bands to have been blasted over the stadium speakers when I would throw a 65-yard bomb to my wide out for a game-winning TD. You can check out the full tracklisting down below. There are also some team fight songs in this years game which includes the song for my beloved Chicago Bears. Our year, baby!

Madden ’11 soundtrack
AC/DC – Thunderstruck
Archie Eversole – We Ready
Blur – Song 2
Guns N’ Roses – Welcome to the Jungle
Kevin Rudolf featuring Lil’ Wayne – Let It Rock
Kiss – Rock and Roll All Nite
Ozzy Osbourne – Let Me Hear You Scream
Ozzy Osbourne – Crazy Train
The Hives – Tick Tick Boom
Todd Rundgren – Bang the Drum
Ying Yang Twins featuring Homebwoi – Halftime

Cover Versions:
Rock N Roll Part 2 – as made famous by Gary Glitter
We Will Rock You – as made famous by Queen

Tonight is the night where the biggest and brightest stars in music come together to congratulate each other for winning awards based on <del datetime="2010-02-01T00:03:21+00:00">the amount of records they sold</del> the quality of their records and songs.

But here’s something you may not have known. A ton of the awards are handed out prior to the televised show that you see due to time constraints. Since so many of those awards were already handed out in the rock music categories, we might as well let you know who won so you can spare yourself the trouble of watching artists you hate perform on your TV.

Down below are the categories and the artist that won. Were your predictions correct? I’m pretty sure most of mine were off.

Best Alternative Music Album:
Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Best Solo Rock Performance Vocal:
Bruce Springsteen – “Working On A Dream”

Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals:
Kings Of Leon – “Use Somebody”

Best Hard Rock Performance:
AC/DC – “War Machine”

Best Metal Performance:
Judas Priest – “Dissident Aggressor”

Best Rock Instrumental Performance:
Jeff Beck – “A Day In The Life”

Best Rock Song:
Kings Of Leon – “Use Somebody”

Best Rock Album:
Green Day – 21st Century Breakdown

Record Of The Year:
Kings Of Leon – “Use Somebody

Song Of The Year:
Beyoncé – “Single Ladies”

Album Of The Year:
Taylor Swift – Fearless

All in all, the Grammy awards were a disappointment this year. Hopefully rock music surges for next year’s award ceremony. Thank goodness we only have to do this once a year.

In what could very well be the loudest soundtrack of 2010, AC/DC has taken over soundtrack for the upcoming blockbuster Iron Man 2.

Spin.com reports that all 15 songs on the soundtrack will come from the Australian hard rockers. It’s about as close as you’ll get to an AC/DC greatest hits album. Down below is the video for AC/DC’s song “Shoot To Thrill” which splices in parts of the movie mixed with concert footage.

Advance copies for the soundtrack can be made starting today over at Wal-Mart’s website. Wal-Mart was also the same store to exclusively sell the band’s last album Black Ice which sold nearly a million copies in its first week.

AC/DC’s Iron Man 2 soundtrack hits stores on April 19 and the movie comes out on May 7. Finally, a chance to see War Machine battle it out while “War Machine” is playing in the background? This could lead to my first comic book/rock music orgasm. Full tracklisting is down below.

AC/DC Iron Man 2 Soundtrack:
Shoot to Thrill
Rock’N'Roll Damnation
Guns for Hire
Cold Hearted Man
Back in Black
Thunderstruck
If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)
Evil Walks
T.N.T.
Hell Ain’t a Bad Place to Be
Have a Drink on Me
The Razor’s Edge
Let There Be Rock
War Machine
Highway to Hell

From June 11 through June 13, Donington Park in the U.K. will probably be the loudest place on the planet courtesy of the Download Festival.

The rock music fest just announced their incredible lineup and I may very well fly to the U.K. for this show. You’ve got the massive headliners AC/DC for starters but then there’s the guys who gave us the best album of 2009 (according to the RiO!B) Them Crooked Vultures.

There will also be the huge return of Scott Weiland and his Stone Temple Pilots, Deftones, Megadeth, Motörhead (featuring God a.k.a Lemmy) and many other bands to make sure you lose your hearing by the end of the festival.

I’m recommending you register at the Download website so that you can get the deals on ticket packages. The deals start at £145 for a three-day pass that grants you access to the arena and they go all the way up to £180 for the weekend pass and a five day camping pass so you can sleep on the Download grounds.

Again, head over to the Download festival website to check out the whole lineup, ticket prices and to register for deals.
