Normally, when I talk about video game soundtracks it’s primarily me reflecting on classic Nintendo theme songs from my youth. Video game soundtracks covered on the RiO!B were either from Guitar Hero (RIP) or Rock Band (RIP as well) or the new installments of Madden. But a new and unexpected player has entered the discussion and may raise some eyebrows…or I guess in this case, cowl brows.

Batman: Arkham City is a game I’m definitely looking forward to since I’m a fan of the amazing first game in the series, Batman: Arkham Asylum. But now, with the sequel, comes a soundtrack featuring all new songs from bands like Coheed and Cambria, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Boxer Rebellion, The Duke Spirit, Panic! At The Disco, Serj Tankian and more (via SuperheroHype.com).

Each song, according to a press release, is meant to be each band’s musical interpretation of the Batman mythology. Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez, a huge comics fan, said, “I write in a very conceptual format with the stories that surround Coheed and Cambria…but Batman has a much larger, defined history and rules that go along with it. My goal was to find universal themes from Batman’s existing history to help give the lyrics legs and dimension so that the song could live within that world.”

The tracklisting is down below and the album is in stores on October 4th. The game is in stores two weeks later on October 18th.

Batman: Arkham City soundtrack:
1. Panic! At The Disco – “Mercenary”
2. Coheed and Cambria – “Deranged”
3. The Duke Spirit – “Creature”
4. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – “Shadow On The Run”
5. Blaqk Audio – “Afterdark”
6. The Raveonettes – “Oh, Stranger”
7. (Crosses) – “The Years”
8. The Damned Things – “Trophy Widow”
9. Daughtry – “Drown In You”
One of the most underrated bands, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, just released their brand new album called Beat The Devil’s Tattoo and the music video up top is for the title track.

The song is a foot-stomper in the blues-rock sense. Between the tambourine, blues guitar and grimy choir sounding chorus, playing this song in the background should definitely allow you to walk around while smoking a cigarette in slow motion and wearing a leather jacket.
Theft! There’s been a theft! Someone has stolen quite a few guitars from the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and they would like them back.

The band posted on their website that someone broke into a storage closet of theirs and made off with quite a few vintage pieces of equipment. The storage closet belonged to Robert Been who is the band’s sound man and father of singer/bassist Robert Levon Been.

The following items were taken:

- Fender 1954 Esquire (Yellow With Black Pick Guard)
- Ampeg 1968 Scroll Top Fretless Bass
- Black Fender 1964 Precision Bass
- Gretsch Country Gentleman 1968 Single Cutaway

Hopefully they find these guitars because that is some costly equipment. May the perpetrator be found soon and hung from his scrotum for what he has done!

Just a quick update for all fans of the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. They’ve just released the tracklisting for their new album Beat The Devil’s Tattoo which comes out on March 9, 2010.

If you’ve needed a BRMC fix this past year, you could have gotten it one of two ways. Either by getting the New Moon soundtrack where the band contributed the new song “Done All Wrong” or by going out and buying their brand new live CD/DVD combo.

So it’s good to know that after a soundtrack release and a live album release, we finally get a studio album from the boys. The tracklisting is down below (via NME).

Beat The Devil’s Tattoo
Beat The Devil’s Tattoo
Conscience Killer
Bad Blood
War Machine
Sweet Feeling
Evol
The argument for 2010 to be a stellar year in rock continues to be bolstered with the announcement of the new album from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

On March 9th, 2010, BRMC will release their fifth album entitled Beat The Devil’s Tattoo. In addition to that, the album will mark the first time that the band releases work from their own imprint called Abstract Dragon. It also marks the first album with new drummer Leah Shapiro. But if you thought a new album was good news then allow me to sweeten the deal.

BRMC will go on tour this coming February in support of the new record and all the dates are down below. The album that you really want to buy but don’t want anyone to know that you own has leaked onto the interwebs. I’m talking about the soundtrack for the film New Moon.

Chalk full of original songs by indie-rock royalty, the soundtrack is this year’s equivalent to the Garden State soundtrack except instead of Natalie Portman and a good movie you get Kristen Stewart and an awful movie. But the music is still damn good.

Bands like Muse, The Killers, Band of Skulls, OK Go, Grizzly Bear and artists like Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, St. Vincent and more take you through a world where vampires listen to really cool bands and probably suck PBR out of a can with their fangs. Down below are a couple of the songs from the album. The New Moon soundtrack hits stores on October 20th. If you want to hear every track in its entirety then head over here. You’re welcome.

Thom Yorke – Hearing Damage

Muse – I Belong To You

The Killers – A White Demon Love Song

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Done All Wrong

I am not a fan of Twilight. The books, the movies, the whole idea. I just never saw the appeal. However the soundtrack for the upcoming Twilight sequel, New Moon, may be a record that makes it into my collection.

Indie-rock fans are probably jizzing their skinny jeans over the recent announcement of the tracklisting for the soundtrack (via Consequence of Sound) that will accompany pale vampires on screen.

Bands like Band of Skulls, Bon Iver & St. Vincent, Grizzly Bear, The Killers, Thom Yorke of Radiohead and more will be contributing to what could be the coolest looking soundtrack I’ve seen in a good long while. Will this make me go see the movie? Not a chance but I will hit up my record store for a copy of this album. The full tracklisting is down below. Prepare to be wowed.

01. Death Cab for Cutie – Meet Me on the Equinox
02. Band of Skulls – Friends
03. Thom Yorke – Hearing Damage
09. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Done All Wrong
10. Hurricane Bells – Monsters

One of my favorite bands, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, is releasing a brand new album in March of 2010 according to Billboard.

They’re currently in a Hollywood studio mixing the new record but if you’ve been craving something new from BRMC they’ve got just the thing for you. On November 10th the band will be releasing a DVD called Live that shows concert footage of the band in Berlin, Glasgow and Dublin back in 2007 in support of their last album Baby 81.

The package will also include a second DVD which will feature studio recording sessions and acoustic performances by the band for fans that couldn’t make it into their shows. There will also be a CD with 14 tracks as well as a 48-page book. I may have to get my hands on this one.
