Death Cab For Cutie announce North American tour with Magik*Magik Orchestra

Death Cab For Cutie will hit the road this spring but not in their usual way. Their upcoming North American trek will feature members of San Francisco’s Magik*Magik Orchestra to create what they call a “one-of-a-kind tour.”

The tour kicks off on April 10th in Denver, CO and concludes on May 13th in Seattle, WA. DCFC will play more intimate venues this time out and tickets for the general public go on sale starting January 27th. A pre-sale is set for January 20th if you’re a member of the band’s fan club, DCFC Union Local #1138. Check out all the tour dates below.

Watch: Death Cab For Cutie – “Underneath The Sycamore”

Death Cab For Cutie’s newest album, Codes And Keys, continues to pump out singles. Their newest one, “Underneath The Sycamore,” has now been coupled with a pretty cool music video which you can check out up top.

According to Wired.com, the video got it’s detective/film noir look from the animation team known as Walter Robot. It features the private eye known as Mojowski “as he searches desolate streets for a missing woman. From the last place she was known to be to the last man she was seen with, he follows her footsteps until he finds her on a roof about to jump.”

Does the hero find the girl? Does she jump? Was any of it real? Watch and see.

Well there it is. The Grammy. The award that artists strive to win and the one that bloggers and fans hate. Primarily because, as fans, we feel that OUR favorite bands deserve all the accolades and fuck the rest. But this award ceremony offers us a place to vent our frustrations and reaffirm our hatred for genres and artists we can’t stand. There’s gonna be a lot of hate for one Justin Bieber again…even if he isn’t nominated for anything.

Regardless, it’s my job to make sure all of you freaks know who’s up for the golden gramophone this time around when it comes to our beloved rock and roll. So down below are all the categories that feature rock bands and artists that have been nominated.

The Grammys take place on February 12th at 8pm EST on CBS. Here’s hoping we get another Arcade Fire winning best album of the year moment again.

Flaming Lips ready plans for Record Store Day 2012

Are you surprised that the Flaming Lips would already have plans set for next year’s Record Store Day? It really shouldn’t be all that shocking. Especially since this is the band that released a six-hour song and is planning on releasing a 24-hour song.

Billboard spoke to Wayne Coyne who said that the band is creating a compilation featuring collaborations with artists they’ve already worked with including Neon Indian, Lightning Bolt and Prefuse 73. But what’s more interesting are the upcoming collabs the band is readying.

The Flaming Lips are planning to work with bands and artists including Death Cab for Cutie, Ghostland Observatory, Cloudland Canyon and Nick Cave. There are also plans to work on material with Lykke Li and Ke$ha. Coyne said, “I am bound to the agreements we have with the other artists because we’re doing all of this as limited editions. They’re trusting us not just to sound cool but handle the music with special care.”

Record Store Day 2012 is on April 21st next year.

Another day, another Death Cab for Cutie track from the forthcoming Codes and Keys which is out May 31st. This time, thanks to our Seattle brethren at 107.7 The End, it’s the track “Underneath the Sycamore.” I’m getting more excited with every track that makes its way onto the internet from this album. Yes it’s a major label release from DCFC but it doesn’t really feel that way. It reminds me more of their earlier work before they shot into the stratosphere with albums like Plans and Narrow Stairs. Check out the track down below and get ready to buy this album in a couple of weeks.
