The new Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach, had many different collaborators from all across the wide spectrum of music. Everyone from Snoop Dogg and Mos Def to Lou Reed and two members of the Clash. But one collaboration that Damon Albarn hoped to have never saw the light of day.

John Lydon a.k.a Johnny Rotten a.k.a the guy that sold Country Life butter in the UK recently told the Daily Mail (via Gigwise) that Albarn reached out to see if he wanted to be a part of the album but he turned him down. “I really don’t want to be dabbling in other people’s gene pools,” he said.

He added that with all the people he’s worked with over the years, its never been “for any deliberate financial motivation. If I did it wouldn’t be a business phone call followed by a management agreement and then for an album manufactured and marketed as to what the current popular trends were.”

Lydon’s band, Public Image LTD., are planning to play in Israel next despite many artists boycotting the country due to clashes with Palestinians. Gotta love that “Anarchy in the UK” spirit.

When he’s not bashing other rock stars or promoting English butter, John Lydon has spent time getting his band back together. No, not the Sex Pistols. It’s his other band Public Image Ltd.

John recently did an interview with the Guardian where he talked about why he was getting the band back together. “”It feels clean,” says Lydon. “It’s refreshing.”

Although the original lineup of the band won’t be on stage with the former Johnny Rotten. Public Image Ltd. version 2.0 will include guitarist Lu Edmonds and drummer Bruce Smith, both of whom were members of the band in the late 80′s. Also joining them will be multi-instrumentalist Scott Firth. As to why the original members of the band, Jah Wobble and Keith Levene, who recorded the albums Metal Box and First Issue aren’t included in this “reunion”, Lydon says “They’re off on their own tangents.” But Lydon says that he and Wobble are still friends.

Public Image Ltd. plans on playing a string of dates this December in the U.K. which you can see down below:

12/15 – Birmingham O2 Academy
12/16 – Leeds O2 Academy
12/18 – Glasgow O2 Academy
12/19 – Manchester Academy
12/21 – London Brixton O2 Academy
