I’ll be the first to tell you that the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco, CA is a damn good time. I went there for the first time last year and even documented my time on video. And based on this year’s line up it looks I’m going back to the Bay Area this summer.

Metallica, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Stevie Wonder, Jack White, Foo Fighters and Beck will lead the charge this year at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Sigur Rós, Justice, Dispatch, The Kills, Regina Spektor, Passion Pit, Grandaddy, Bloc Party, Explosions in the Sky and Franz Ferdinand will also be performing.

You can also expect to see Portugal. The Man, Alabama Shakes, The Walkmen, Dr. Dog, Fun., Fitz And The Tantrums, Caveman, Sharon Van Etten, Washed Out, Reggie Watts and even some EDM artists like Skrillex and Wolfgang Gartner.

Passes for the festival go on sale this Thursday, April 19th at the Outside Lands official website.

Taking place in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 23rd and 24th at Bader field, the festival will feature ‘Tallica headlining both nights and they will be performing both The Black Album and Ride The Lightning in its entirety. The festival will include 22 bands hand selected by the band to perform. The line up is quite interesting as it mixes the worlds of metal and hard rock with alternative and indie rock.

Playing alongside Metallica will be Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse, Fucked Up, The Gaslight Anthem, Best Coast, Titus Andronicus, Cage the Elephant, A Place to Bury Strangers, Roky Erickson, Lucero, Hot Snakes, The Black Angels, Gary Clark Jr., The Sword, Liturgy and Avenged Sevenfold.

Tickets are going on sale February 11th at 10am EST but a pre-sale for those that are a part of Metallica’s fan club will go from February 8-10. More info can be found at OrionMusicAndMore.com.

UK rockers, get ready to do some dancing and some headbanging at Donington Park this year. The line up for the 10th annual Download festival was recently announced and the line up is rather big for fans of hard rock and metal.

Headlining this whole shindig are Metallica, Black Sabbath and The Prodigy. You’ve also got Chase & Status, Biffy Clyro and Soundgarden providing support (even though I think Soundgarden should be a headliner but that’s just me.) Other bands appearing include Tenacious D, Machine Head, Lamb of God, You Me At Six, Trivium, Devil Driver, August Burns Red, Anthrax, Little Angels, Devin Townshend Project and Ugly Kid Joe.

The festival will run from June 8-10 and you can buy tickets right now by heading to the Download website. I figure since there’s no Glastonbury festival this year, you can head to Download and take out your aggression there. What else were you gonna do? Mosh at the Olympics?

Okay, that would be pretty awesome…

Would ya look at that? All those previously unreleased tracks that have been leaking online all week from Metallica? Turns out the band has released them as an EP on iTunes called Beyond Magnetic.

The four tracks, “Just A Bullet Away,” “Hate Train,” “Hell And Back” and “Rebel Of Babylon,” will be available for download in the U.S. starting this week in honor of the band’s 30th anniversary which they’ve celebrated this whole week. Of course, since all those tracks leaked onto the web you can check them out here.

So what did the band have to say about this new EP?

During the Death Magnetic album sessions in 2007 and 2008, we originally recorded 14 songs. When it came time to pick the songs for the final album, we decided on 10 songs that you’ve all come to know over the last three years… Some of you may have heard bits and pieces of those other songs on ‘Mission Metallica’ (remember ‘Mission Metallica’?!) or heard rumors about them during the recording process, and wondered, ‘What ever happened to those other four songs???.’ We kept them in the vault and decided to pull them just for this special celebration, so here are the four leftover tracks from the Death Magnetic sessions. They are ROUGH mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March ’08. These four songs were released as gift to our closest fans, the members of our Fan Club, to enjoy. Now they’re being made available to you.

Beyond Magnetic EP tracklist
1. “Hate Train”
Question: What does one Bay Area band give another Bay Area band for their 30th anniversary? If you’re Green Day, you cover the Misfits.

Up top, you can check out Billie Joe Armstrong and the crew cover “Hybrid Moments” as a present for Metallica and then launch into a rendition of “Happy Birthday.” It should be noted that Armstrong lovingly refers to ‘Tallica in the song as “You old ass heavy metal motherfuckers.” I’d say that’s a pretty spot-on description.

Meanwhile, Metallica has been releasing previously unreleased demos from Death Magnetic all week long and a good majority of people are wondering why those songs didn’t make the album.
This really has been a good week for Metallica fans. It seems as if almost everyday another unreleased demo from the band was hitting the web for you to consume…so why stop now?

Down below, you can stream yet another previously unreleased Death Magnetic recording called “Rebel Of Babylon” (via Blabbermouth). This is the fourth track to come from Metallica this week. The previous songs include “Hate Train,” “Just A Bullet Away” and “Hell And Back”. This bounty hath sprung forth online since Metallica celebrated its 30th anniversary this past week by playing a week of shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco.

Down below, you can also check out video of ‘Tallica performing “Hit The Lights” with Dave Mustaine and “Iron Man” with Ozzy and Geezer Butler last night.
