OK. This is awesome. Late Night with Jimmy Fallon is upping the musical ante by paying tribute to Pink Floyd all next week. Since Floyd is re-issuing all 14 of their studio albums as well as releasing a six-disc version of Dark Side of the Moon on September 27th, Billboard reports that Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Shins, MGMT and Dierks Bentley will perform songs from the band’s catalog.

It kicks off with The Shins on September 26th as the band will play “Breathe” from Dark Side. The next night, Foo Fighters AND Roger Waters will perform “The Wall.” MGMT will take over on Wednesday performing “Lucifer Sam” from the 1967 album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Dierks Bentley will perform “Wish You Were Here” on Thursday and Pearl Jam will end the week with “Mother.”

In addition to all these performances, Roger Waters and Nick Mason will be interviewed by Fallon. Man, it’s gonna be a great week.

If you thought that MGMT needed to be even more experimental this year, you’re about to get your wish.

French music website La Blogotheque are releasing a new online “takeaway” documentary featuring the darlings of indie-rock called Camp MGMT. From the look of the trailer, which you can see down below, it shows the band getting together for a rehearsal. The song you hear at the end is the beginning of “Flash Delirium” from Congratulations. That’s really all there is to see. So I’m not sure if this means we get to see the inner workings of MGMT in this doc or that footage is just a teaser for something even more insane.

There isn’t a release date for the film yet but, according to the site, the filmmakers spent a day with the band filming them at rehearsals and at parties. Their end result is an intimate look at the band.

To this day, I don’t know what MGMT take or how much of it they’re taking to come up with their video concepts but I need to meet the guy that gives it to them. Up top is the video for the title track of their album, Congratulations. The video just shows Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser walking through a desert with what appears to be a camel-like creature that wasn’t used in Star Wars. As they walk, this thing starts to fall apart – literally – in front of them.

So if you’re not into watching camel-type muppets die because it’s too upsetting for you, then stay away from this video. But if not, then sit back and watch the madness unfold.

I’m no fan of MTV by any means. I probably won’t even watch the VMA’s this year unless I know some shit is gonna go down…which means Kanye will probably be at the awards this year. But I still give credit where it’s due when it comes to bands who are being nominated.

Even though videos are no longer played on the channel formerly known as Music Television, they have nominated bands for different video categories. For Video of the Year, 30 Seconds To Mars and their video for “Kings And Queens” is up against Lady Gaga, Eminem, B.O.B. and, in a surprising move, Florence + The Machine. Which means Lady Gaga will win because awards always go to the most popular kid, right?

For Best Rock Video, 30 Seconds To Mars goes up against MGMT, Paramore, Muse and Florence + The Machine. How many people who watch MTV even know who Florence + The Machine is? I’m not taking anything away from them but you really think 13-year-old girls who watch Jersey Shore are going to know one of their songs? I seriously doubt it.

All the nominees can be seen at MTV.com and the VMA’s air on September 12th at 9pm EST. If anything should happen during the award show, someone let me know about as I’ll probably be watching football that night.

Video of the Year:
30 Seconds To Mars – “Kings And Queens”
B.O.B. f/ Hayley Williams – “Airplanes”
Eminem – “Not Afraid”
Florence + The Machine – “Dog Days Are Over”
Lady Gaga – “Bad Romance”
Lady Gaga f/ Beyoncé – “Telephone”

Best Rock Video:
30 Seconds To Mars – “Kings and Queens”
It’s the middle of 2010 and I thought that we should take a look back at the past six months and, from all the albums that have been released, pick the Rock it Out! Blog’s top 7 albums of 2010…so far. This isn’t a ranked list since we’ve still got six months to go and it wouldn’t be fair to the new albums that may blow my mind in the next few months. So consider this a round up of the albums I feel stood out over the first half of the year. Here we go.

The Black Keys’ newest album, Brothers, is a tight blues-rock package that can easily be listened to while making you feel cooler than you ever have in your life. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, mixed with Danger Mouse’s production skills, bring songs that prove you don’t have to constantly distort your rock music to get a bad ass sound.

The Black Keys – “Howlin’ For You”

Let’s see. Jack White and Alison Mosshart + a sharp, loud album filled with tracks that make you want to get all sorts of down and dirty = album on the list. The Dead Weather knock it out of the park with Sea of Cowards. Songs like “Gasoline” and “Blue Blood Blues” bring the grittier, more violent side of blues-rock into the forefront and no one can deliver these songs like Mr. White.

The Dead Weather – “Blue Blood Blues”

Deftones return with Diamond Eyes which balances their harder edge while presenting songs that are softer yet still presentable. With all the shit that this band has been through with bassist Chi Cheng ending in the hospital, it’s amazing that they scrapped their original album, Eros, and put this together in a matter of months. One can only imagine what would happen if they put a year or more into this record. Our heads would probably explode.

Deftones – “Rocket Skates”

You may think I put American Slang on the list just because the band is from New Jersey…and that may be partially true. But the main reason is that this album is just awesome. Yes, while the comparisons to Springsteen will still be made (even by me), this New Brunswick band knows how to toe the line between punk and and that older rock sound you love listening to when you get good and plastered at the bar at 2 a.m.

The Gaslight Anthem – “Boxer”

I’ll be honest. When I first heard Plastic Beach I really wasn’t a fan. It didn’t have that same upbeat feel that made me love Demon Days so much. But after a few more listens (some whilst under an influence) you begin to hear the subtleties the album surprises you with. Plus, collaborations with Bobby Womack, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg and members of the Clash definitely help to bring the album to another level. This is Gorillaz all growed up.

Gorillaz – “Rhinestone Eyes”

This album is on the list for one reason. MGMT has balls. Giant, brass ones. Their first album was chock full o’ singles and could have easily gone the same route for LP #2. But with Congratulations they threw out the rulebook and pretty much started from scratch. Singles? They don’t need no stinkin’ singles! They just need you to relax your mind and give this album a few listens.

MGMT – “Brian Eno”

I have to credit Alex Young from Consequence of Sound for getting me into this band. The National’s High Violet is an album that makes me wonder what lounge singers from the 40′s and 50′s would have sang if they had a band behind them. Matt Berninger’s baritone vocals don’t try to soar to heights unknown. They sit in a comfortable environment while still exuding a confidence that says “You can’t listen to this band any other way.”

The National – “Runaway”
