The movie Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World looks like it’ll be an entertaining watch but being that this is a music blog we’re a tad more excited about the soundtrack. Why? Because it features some new music from Beck.

Mr. Hansen has composed five new pieces of music for the soundtrack that’s looking to challenge The Twilight Saga: Eclipse OST for superiority in the indie community. The five songs are played Scott Pilgrim’s (aka Michael Cera) band in the movie called the Sex Bob-Ombs. Meanwhile, a rival band in the movie, called Crash and the Boys, will have their music provided by Canada’s own indie-rock champs Broken Social Scene.

Other songs in the movie come from bands including Metric, The Rolling Stones, Frank Black and T. Rex. Oh and did I also mention that the film’s score was written by longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich? I may have to go and see this film with a blindfold on.

The movie comes out August 13th but the album is out on August 10th. The tracklisting is down below as is the trailer for the movie.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World soundtrack tracklisting:
1. SEX BOB-OMB (Beck): “We Are SEX BOB-OMB”
2. Plumtree: “Scott Pilgrim”
3. Frank Black: “I Heard Ramona Sing”
4. Beachwood Sparks: “By Your Side”
5. Black Lips: “O Katrina!”
6. Crash and the Boys (Broken Social Scene): “I’m So Sad, So Very, Very Sad”
7. Crash and the Boys (Broken Social Scene): “We Hate You Please Die”
8. SEX BOB-OMB (Beck): “Garbage Truck”
9. T. Rex: “Teenage Dream”
10. The Bluetones: “Sleazy Bed Track”

Last night, Thom Yorke’s new band Atoms For Peace kicked off their mini-tour in New York City and I was lucky enough to go to the show.

It was an amazing performance! The band (Yorke, Nigel Godrich, Flea, Mauro Refosco, Joey Waronker) played all of Yorke’s solo album, The Eraser, from beginning to end. Songs like “Harrowdown Hill”, “The Clock” and album closer “Cymbal Rush” all had a new life to them thanks to the funkiness (and blue hair) supplied by Flea, Waronker and Refosco.

Not to mention, you haven’t lived until you’ve seen Thom Yorke and Flea have a dance-off. It gets you pumped.

After playing all of The Eraser, Thom returned to the stage to grace us with a few solo performances before bringing the rest of the band back to close out the night.

One of the songs that Thom played solo was a brand spankin’ new tune that didn’t even have a name yet. Hopefully it ends up on a new solo album, a new Radiohead album or (fingers crossed) a Atoms For Peace album. Check out the new song and the setlist below and be sure to see Atoms For Peace if they come through your town. It’s an insane show.

Thom Yorke, you shifty little Englishman. With all the snow that’s coming down on the east coast today, you have managed to brighten my whole weekend.

Thom Yorke ??? (that’s the name of his solo band, btw) has announced a small U.S. tour this April. The band, which Thom has now said will be called Atoms For Peace, will play a few club dates before their massive show at Coachella in California. New York, Chicago and Oakland, CA get two shows for this nine-date outing which means I get two chances to see the band! You’ll be able to grab tickets right over here.

A quick history lesson for the uneducated. Thom Yorke and his bandmates producer Nigel Godrich, Flea, Mauro Refosco and Joey Waronker, first performed together in L.A. last summer. They performed songs from Thom’s solo album The Eraser as well as a few brand new songs. You can see videos of their performance right here.

Are you as excited for Atoms For Peace as much as I am?! You should be considering this could be the best show I see this year! Woo-hoo!

Atoms For Peace tour dates:
4/4 & 4/5 – Roseland Ballroom. New York, NY
4/8 – Citi Wang Theater. Boston, MA
4/10 & 4/11 – Aragon Ballroom. Chicago
4/14 & 4/15 – Fox Theatre. Oakland, CA
4/17 – Santa Barbara Bowl. Santa Barbara, CA
4/18 – Coachella Music Festival. Indio, CA

Last night in Los Angeles, CA a lucky few people paid quite a bit of money to see a band “rehearse”. But you would too if this band consisted of Thom Yorke, Flea from RHCP, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco.

The Echoplex in L.A. was the spot where Thom’s brand new, unnamed band made their first appearance. Their set consisted of the entire tracklisting of Thom’s solo album The Eraser, the two new Thom Yorke songs “The Hollow Earth” and “Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses” as well as four brand new songs (including a possible new Radiohead tune) plus “Paperbag Writer” which is a Hail To The Thief b-side. For anyone in the crowd that was hoping to hear the song “Hearing Damage” which is Thom’s contribution to the New Moon soundtrack didn’t get it but I’m sure they weren’t complaining.

The set list for the band’s 90 minute show is down below as well a few videos from the performance. Let me just say, first, that while the videos are awesome, L.A. audiences suck. Throughout the performance people were chatting away as if it were just some random cover band onstage. At one point in the night, Thom looked up and addressed the problem. “If you want to have a chat, go fuck off outside, all right?” Needless to say the crowd quieted down. For more vids from the show, see my buddy over at TwentyFourBit.

I’ve recently seen some pictures of a Mr. Thom Yorke of Radiohead strutting about Los Angeles, CA. He recently did a DJ set at the Roosevelt Hotel and has been seen out and about in the city of angels. But now we’ve discovered why he’s spending a lot of time on the left coast. It will blow your mind.

Consequence of Sound has reported that Thom has formed a band with longtime RH producer Nigel Godrich, Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, drummer Joey Waronker and percussionist Maron Refosco. Thom wrote about this over at Radiohead’s official website:

hi
in the past couple of weeks i’ve been getting a band together for fun to play the eraser stuff live and the new songs etc.. to see if it could work!
here’s a photo.. its me, joey waronker, mauro refosco, flea and nigel godrich.

at the beginning of october the 4th and 5th we are going to do a couple of shows at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.
we don’t really have a name and the set will not be very long cuz ..well …we haven’t got that much material yet!
but come and check it out if you are in the area. we’ve also got locals Lucky Dragons playing.
all the best

Damn you, California! Getting the awesomeness that is Thom Yorke and Flea on the same stage! Anyways if you Golden Staters want tickets to the Orpheum Theater shows then you can click here for the October 4th show and here for the October 5th show. The tix go on sale at 10am PST on September 29th which would be today so go buy some…and think of the RiO!B when you do.
