The Virgin Mobile FreeFest, which takes place at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, has announced the lineup for their free event. If you’re a fan of indie-rock and dance/electronic music, then this is the festival for ya.

As you can see by the giant eagle in the picture up top, the festival goes down on September 25th and features two separate areas. You’ve got the stage at Merriweather which features acts like Jimmy Eat World, Pavement, M.I.A and Thievery Corporation. Then you have the surrounding grounds which include performances from Matt & Kim, LCD Soundsystem, Yeasayer, The Temper Trap and others.

Also, at both sites, there’s a dance forest which will include mind-melting sets from Sleigh Bells, Chromeo, Neon Indian, Modeselektor and Die Antwoord. So with all this music, how will you ever afford tickets to this thing? I remind you, once again, that it’s for FREE.

Tickets can be “bought” starting Saturday, July 24th at Ticketfly.com. If you purchase the tickets and print them online or pick them up from the Merriweather box office or the 9:30 Club box office in Washington, D.C. you won’t drop a dime. If you have the tickets mailed to you, however, there will be a small service charge. You can also buy premium tickets, which means you’ll get pavilion seating, and a portion of the proceeds will go to homeless charities.

For a while in the indie-world, She & Him’s Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward were the princess and prince of the cute boy/girl duo act. But their reign is about to be challenged by a new couple that uses their first names in their band name.

Jenny and Johnny are Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis and her BF Johnathan Rice. They’re releasing their first album called I’m Having Fun Now later this year but they’d like you to download their first single for free. It’s called “Scissor Runner” and you can grab it at their website.

In addition to a new album, the couple will be touring through the U.S. starting September 1st in Santa Cruz, CA. While these shows will probably sell out fast due to hipsters in 50′s clothing trying to look hip on the scene, Jenny and Johnny will also open for Pavement at two shows in Brooklyn and Boston and will open for Belle and Sebastian on October 3rd in Hollywood. All tour dates are down below as well. You can get tickets for the shows starting June 25th at Ticketmaster.

The lineup for Coachella 2010 has been announced and it looks like it’s gonna be a damn good time!

With artists like Muse, Gorillaz, Them Crooked Vultures, Jay-Z, Pavement and Thom Yorke to name a few, Indio, CA is ready to kick off the festival season with a massive three-day celebration.

Of course, with Coachella being the spot where many indie-rock bands catapult into stardom, bands like Vampire Weekend, Dirty Projectors, Passion Pit, Major Lazer, Phoenix and more will play their tunes while fedora wearing, skinny jean clad hipsters sway back and forth in the California sun. But with the young come the older but still legendary acts.

Indie-rock godfathers Pavement will headline on night 3 of the festival while bands like Echo and The Bunnymen, Sly and the Family Stone, Faith No More, Johnny Rotten’s Public Image Limited and Gary Numan will rock the stages as older festival goers hearken back to the days when these bands were still fresh on the scene.

I couldn’t possibly select my favorite acts to see at this festival (besides Thom Yorke???? due to my undying love for Radiohead) but the RiO!B is gonna do its best to make it out to the west coast to cover it. Even if it means I have to stow away in the wheel well of the plane to get there. But what you can do is head over to Ticketmaster where you can start buying your tickets and three-day passes on Friday January 22nd.

In what could possibly be some amazing news, BrooklynVegan is reporting that the legendary band Pavement might reunite next year for shows in NYC.

Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich, Scott Kannberg, Steve West, and Mark Ibold made up the band that played their last show at Coachella in 1999. It was Malkmus who would later call Kannberg in 2000 to tell him that the band was done. But now it’s rumored that the guys might play four shows during September of 2010′s Summerstage which are shows that take place in Central Park. It’s also been speculated that the band may play their first reunion gig at next year’s Coachella festival

Malkmus started this rumor mill when he told Spin last year that “the option (of a reunion) is open”. Kannberg told Loud and Quit magazine that “2009 would be our twenty-year anniversary too, so that’d be a good time to do it, but I think that’s too soon, it might have to be pushed back later.”

Nothing’s been confirmed yet but if this goes down then jump for joy and grab a ticket to the show.

UPDATE: Pitchfork has confirmed that Pavement will indeed reunite next year at Summerstage. The date of the show is September 21, 2010. Wow!
