CMJ week here in New York may have already reached its pinnacle moment on its second day. Last night at Madison Square Garden, during the French band Phoenix’s headlining set, two French electronic robots collectively known as Daft Punk made the arena go insane with their special appearance and performance.

Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo joined Phoenix on stage for their encore and, according to the videos down below, played two songs together. First was D. Punk’s epic “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” with Phoenix providing the backing music. Then Daft Punk helped with the rhythm section for Phoenix’s massive hit, “1901.”

Now why would Daft Punk come out of hibernation after three years to perform with these indie-rock darlings? Two reasons: everyone on that stage was French and Phoenix guitarist Laurent Brancowitz once played in a band called Darlin’ that also included Bangalter and Homem-Christo.

Check out the videos down below and also check out a brand new poster featuring Daft Punk in the Tron: Legacy outfits down below as well. The Tron: Legacy soundtrack will be in stores on December 7th.

A lot of award shows are shit…ok, I take that back. ALL award shows are shit. Yet, we watch a few of them so that we have something to complain about the next day. Whether it’s our favorite band getting passed over, a movie we think should win doesn’t win or somebody gets real drunk and runs on stage to make an ass of themselves, we’ll find something to discuss. But the American Music Awards are a complete waste of an award show. They’re almost as bad as the People’s Choice awards. Yet I’m inclined to write about it because some good bands (not many) have been nominated for this year’s AMAs. But whoever wins, it’ll still be nothing to brag about.

In the only category that actually has bands in it, Favorite Alternative Rock Act, the three that were nominated are Muse, Phoenix and Vampire Weekend. My guess is that Muse will win because the other two are “too indie” for mainstream American crowds. Also, in the Favorite Soundtrack category, AC/DC’s Iron Man 2 soundtrack goes up against The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack which features songs from Muse, Vampire Weekend, The Black Keys, The Dead Weather, Metric and more.

Honestly, if any award show ever needed a moment where someone pulled a Kanye West, this would be the one. But if you’re actually interested in watching, or you’re just that bored, it airs on Sunday, November 21st on ABC at 8:00 p.m. EST.

The massive summer festival that is Lollapalooza is only two months away and hundreds of thousands of people will descend upon Grant Park in Chicago, IL to see tons of amazing bands. But a problem many festival goers have is how to see all your favorite bands without missing any.

Well, that’s next to impossible but the good people of Lolla have made it easier for you by releasing the three-day schedule of what acts are playing where. Go to Lollapalooza’s website to check out the full schedule and create your own custom schedule so you can decide who to see.

The headliners for the festival are scheduled as follows: Friday, August 6th will bring major sets from The Strokes, Lady Gaga, The Black Keys and Hot Chip. Saturday, August 7th includes shows from Green Day, Phoenix, Spoon, Cut Copy and Social Distortion. Finally, Sunday, August 8th features the reunion of Soundgarden and also sets from Arcade Fire, MGMT and The National.

It’s bound to be a big festival this year and three-day passes are still available as well as single-day passes. Go to the festival’s website for more information.

San Francisco is slowly gaining the status of “awesome music festival city” ever since Outside Lands arrived at Golden Gate Park.

The festival, which started back in 2008, announced the full lineup of the two day event today. Headliners will include massive bands including Kings of Leon, My Morning Jacket, Phoenix, The Grateful Dead and another festival appearance by The Strokes.

Outside Lands, normally a three-day festival, will only go for two days this year on August 14th and 15th. Which means more music packed into your San Fran experience. You may want to schedule what shows you want to see before going this year.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, June 2nd at 10 am PST. One day passes go for $75 and two day passes go for $125 and will be available to buy at Ticketmaster.

To see the full lineup you can head to the festival’s website or you can watch the informative and entertaining video down below.

The band recently stopped by NPR and played an unplugged, four-song set for the station’s Tiny Desk Concert series. The songs that were played included mega-hits “Lisztomania” and “1901″ as well as the song “Armistice” which is also from their LP Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and “Playground Love” which is a song from the Virgin Suicides movie soundtrack.

You can watch the video of the performance and download an mp3 of the concert by heading over to NPR’s website. It’s definitely worth taking 15 minutes out of your day to enjoy this bit of acoustic rock brilliance.

Let me start off by saying that if you don’t have tickets for the Glastonbury festival this year, you’re shit out of luck because they’re sold out. But if you do have tickets, then enjoy reading the following words.

The lineup for Glastonbury was announced recently it is going to be a monster of a festival this year. First off the headliners include acts like U2, Muse, Stevie Wonder and Jack Johnson.

Plus you’ve got other huge acts like Vampire Weekend, Slash, Snoop Dogg, Ray Davies, Scissor Sisters, Phoenix, The Gaslight Anthem, The Flaming Lips, MGMT, Coheed and Cambria (deep breath) Broken Social Scene, Broken Bells, The XX, We Are Scientists, The Hold Steady, George Clinton w/Parliament Funkadelic, The National, Hot Chip, Willie Nelson (deep breath) and the list just goes on and on and on.

I suggest you head over here to see the full three-day lineup.

Glastonbury takes place between the 24th-27th of June. It really sucks to be you if you don’t have a ticket to this…wait I don’t have a ticket. Dammit, it sucks to be me.

French dance-rockers Phoenix were one of the biggest buzz bands in 2009 and they plan on riding that buzz through 2010 and beyond. So how does a band manage to stay in our good graces? By giving us a live album to download for free!

Make your way over to their website and you’ll be able to download the 8-track album Live In Sydney. All you have to do is hit the download button. No mailing list, no contact info, nothing. Consider it a gift on behalf of the people of France so we stop making fun of them for a little bit…but only for a little bit.

Phoenix is rumored to be one of the headliners for the Lollapalooza festival but it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Live In Sydney tracklist:
Lisztomania
Lasso
Fences
Girlfriend
Armistice
Love like a sunset
Rome
1901
