Watch: Phil Selway – “By Some Miracle”

Since Radiohead drummer Phil Selway released his debut solo album, Familial, that means it had to have a single. So with a single must come a music video, right?

Down below is the video for the song “By Some Miracle.” A dark, acoustic track, the video reflects the almost eerie tune with some pretty crazy imagery. We see a young man with a brick attached to a rope which is tied around his foot. Young man throws said brick with rope off of a roof. Uh oh. Suicide attempt, right? Sure…until the last few seconds. Watch it and see what I mean.

As for Selway, he’s still got quite a few tour dates left throughout Europe. One can only hope that he’ll come to America to play a few shows for audiences that are sure to go and see him. Granted, they may all be Radiohead fans hoping for Thom Yorke or Jonny Greenwood to make a cameo appearance, but it would still be cool to see Selway up in front of the stage playing to crowds in an intimate setting. There are many reasons why I feel Radiohead is the greatest band in the world. Rather than listing them all, I’d simply like to add one more to the pile. A concert they put on in Prague in August of 2009 was captured on video by a group of fans scattered throughout the crowd. The fans then compiled the footage and made it into a full concert film. Radiohead liked the idea so much that they gave the filmmakers the master audio from the soundboard to put into the movie. Also, the film is available to download online for free.

Thanks to Some Kind Of Awesome, we came across the footage of the concert and it’s quite the cool. Plus it sounds amazing! To download the film, you just have to go to this website right here and download it. It’s available in many different formats and will soon be available in Blu-Ray. However, the website has been running a bit slow (probably due to the whole world downloading it) so here’s another option.

Radiohead drummer Phil Selway is taking the plunge and releasing his own solo record called Familial which will be in stores on August 31st.

Down below, you can check out a song from the album called “By Some Miracle” which features Selway on vocals. The song is a dark, folk-y tune with Selway singing in a high whisper. I really didn’t think that he had such a high voice but, as evidenced by this track, it would seem he does.

If you’re expecting any of this album to sound anything like Radiohead at all then you can put that thought out of your head. There will be no references to “Amnesiac b-sides” when critiquing this album.

If you like the song then Mr. Selway has been kind enough to let you download it for the price of nothing. Just go to his website, enter your email address and a download code will be sent to your inbox. For now, however, just check it out and decide whether he’s better behind the drum kit or behind the mic.

Glastonbury has become the official festival I must experience before I die. Muse performing with The Edge and a blistering set from Gorillaz would be enough to make me go but a special surprise performance from the greatest band of all time would have made me jump on the next flight out.

Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead appeared on the Park Stage after festival organizer Michael Eavis introduced them as the biggest surprise of the event (via At Ease).

Yorke, dressed like the hairest tennis player ever, came on stage first and played a few songs from his solo LP The Eraser. He was then joined by Greenwood for a few RH songs.

The full set list is down below as well as a videos of “Karma Police,” “Pyramid Song,” “Street Spirit (Fade Out)” and “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi”. It’s a singalong moment I’ve experienced quite a few times and will never get tired of. I even started singing along as I was watching the video. So push play and start singing!

In what may be the best news of the year, Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien has said Radiohead’s new album may be released in 2010.

Consequence of Sound reports that O’Brien appeared on the BBC radio show Adam Buxton’s Big Mixtape and revealed the information and the band’s status in the recording studio.

“Ideally, it’d be great if it came out sometime this year. It’s got to. I hope so,” said O’Brien. “We’re at the studio at the moment… we’re in the heart of the record.” He added that “the finishing line… it’s in touching distance” and that the record should be finished in “a matter of weeks.”

O’Brien pointed out that he feels this album “is the best record we ever made. It really is genuinely exciting. It’s very different from what we did last time.”

I am ass over tea kettle with the release of this news. I know that the RiO!B just released the best 7 albums of 2010 so far list but if RH releases this LP this year, you can be pretty sure what album will take the number one spot in December. You can call me biased all you want but you can’t call me a fair weather fan of these guys. In my eyes they’re the best. Period.

What kind of Radiohead fan would I be if I didn’t talk about drummer Phil Selway’s upcoming solo album?

The man behind the drum beats is stepping out from behind the kit and in front of a microphone as he prepares to release his debut solo LP called Familial. It’s a 10-track record that will be in stores on August 30th.

The album was recorded at Radiohead’s Oxfordshire Courtyard Studios and features contributions from Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche, former Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian Steinberg, singer/songwriter Lisa Germano and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Sansone (via NME).

The tracklist for the album is down below as is a video of Phil singing one of the songs from the album called “The Witching Hour” (are we stealing lyrics from Thom, Mr. Selway?)
