Paul McCartney has made a couple of trips to Washington, D.C. this year and he’s been honored every time he stepped foot in that city. On December 5th, McCartney was honored at the Kennedy Center for his contribution to our nation’s and the world’s pop culture…right alongside Oprah. But Macca clearly got the best tributes of the night.

Thanks to Consequence of Sound, we now have video of those tributes. Up top is our favorite Foo Fighter, Dave Grohl, singing Sir Paul’s “Maybe I’m Amazed” alongside Norah Jones. Down below are videos of No Doubt back together to perform a Beatles medley and below that is Steven Tyler, dressed in what appears to be a jacket straight from the Twilight wardrobe collection, also performing a Beatles medley.

Finally, James Taylor and Mavis Staples performed a duet of the classic “Let It Be.” The performances all aired on CBS on December 28th and now you get to watch them here.

It’s officially official, people. Steven Tyler — lead singer of Aerosmith, solo artist in Japan, dude that looks more like a lady each day — is now a judge for the upcoming 10th season of American Idol. He’ll be joined by token black guy, Randy Jackson, and annoying Puerto Rican ex-pop star Jennifer Lopez.

I suppose I can’t get mad at Tyler. I mean, the dude is getting paid millions of dollars to sit in a chair and tell people whether they suck at singing or whether they’re good at it. Seems like a quick way to make a buck, right? Plus, he’ll actually add real rock credibility to the show and will open it up to a whole new audience that may never have watched AI before.

On the other hand, there’s the little matter of leaving his boys in Aerosmith behind. Guitarist Joe Perry already has said he thinks that Tyler shouldn’t do the show and has threatened (again) to find a new singer for the band because they don’t want to wait around while Tyler is off on another gig. So is American Idol the straw that broke Aerosmith’s back? Will one of the biggest American rock bands come to a screeching halt because of a karaoke contest on TV?

Will you watch AI now that Tyler is a judge? Will you not care at all? Are you worried about the future of Aerosmith? Will Joe Perry really find the band a new singer? Have I asked you too many questions? Are you eating enough fiber? Do you like yourself?

Looks like Steven Tyler will finally kick off his solo career he always wanted. But the first song to be released won’t be in the U.S. but in Japan.

Blabbermouth has reported that Tyler has written and recorded the theme song for the movie Space Battleship Yamato, which is a live-action Japanese film that takes place in space. The song is called “Love Lives” and was written after Tyler studied a translated version of the script and watching the final scene of the film. Press play down below to hear it but you’ll have to deal with all the Japanese dialogue on top of it. It starts 1:17 into the video.

The single itself will be on sale in Japan on November 24th. It’ll include the single, an acoustic version, a piano version and the instrumental. I’m really hoping we get some videos of drunken Japanese people trying to sing this song. That will just make my day/week/month/year.

Joe Perry says he’s out of a job after Aerosmith tour ends

Just when we thought this whole Aerosmith breaking up/not breaking up fiasco was over, guitarist Joe Perry is raising fears once again.

Speaking to the Calgary Herald, Perry said that once the band plays their show in Vancouver on September 16th “I don’t have a job with Aerosmith.” The reason for that statement is due to Steven Tyler taking a job as a judge on American Idol next season. Perry, who said he learned about Tyler’s decision from the media and not from him directly, said that it’s “a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising,” adding, “It’s one step above (Teenage Mutant) Ninja Turtles.”

Things have been a bit shaky on Aerosmith’s recent tour. One show saw Perry hip-check Tyler off-stage after Tyler playfully hip-checked him first. Perry comments that Tyler’s “got this thing in his head that it’s cool when the guys in the band bump into each other,” and then went on to say “Leave me alone when I’m playing.” There was another incident where Tyler accidentally hit Perry in the head with a microphone during a show in New York. “I almost passed out and blood was dripping from my forehead for the rest of the night,” Perry says about that incident.

Ultimately, Perry is planning on moving on without Tyler and is threatening, once again, to find a new singer for the band. “I’m not going to sit around for two years waiting for him to come back to Aerosmith,” said Perry. “(You’ve got) four guys that are great together, and if you find the right singer, there’s no reason you can’t go and entertain people.”

So it looks like American Idol will have a rock n’ roll influence on the show next season. Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler will indeed be a judge on the talent competition.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Tyler’s “deal is done” and that he will be judging up and coming singers and crushing dreams of the ones who suck. Fox is still trying to come up with two other judges to replace Simon Cowell and Ellen Degeneres, who left the show after last season.

MEANWHILE, thanks to our boys at Antiquiet, we came across this bit of video gold. We all remember when Tyler first fell off of a stage while performing at the Sturgis motorcycle rally last year and injured himself. Well he fell off a stage again, this time at a show in Toronto and it was guitarist Joe Perry who made it happen. After Tyler playfully hip-checked Perry during the song “Love In An Elevator,” Perry hip-checked Tyler as he was standing near the edge of the stage and bumped him off entirely.

There’s video goodness down below. I’m guessing Perry just found out the news about Tyler’s AI deal and wanted him to know how he felt about it. Check it out.
