On today’s RiO!B episode, I wanna know from you what albums you’re looking forward to this year. A lot of bands are expected to release new music this year so what ones are you hoping to get in 2012?

The Killers releasing new album this year

Well it looks like the hiatus is over. The Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers recently confirmed to BBC Radio 1′s Zane Lowe that the dance-rock band will be releasing a new album in 2012.

Flowers told Lowe, regarding the release date, “It’s just whether it’s [released in] the summertime or the wintertime.” The frontman also revealed that a few songs had already been recorded including one called “Battle Born” which Flowers described as “definitely a killer on the record.”

As for the sound of the forthcoming album, Flowers said the band was reaching back to their earlier works for inspiration. “I think the consensus within the band is to take those things that we’ve done well and really hone in on that,” he said. “We don’t want to make Hot Fuss 2 or Sam’s Town 2, or Day & Age 2. We’ll maybe take all that stuff, the best of all of it and do what we know how to do.”

The Killers went on hiatus back in 2010. In that time, Flowers released his debut solo album, Flamingo, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci released his debut solo album called Big Talk.

We’re less than a month away from Christmas which means it’s time to get these Christmas tracks going.

How about we start things off with The Killers and their new X-mas track, “The Cowboys’ Christmas Ball,” which you can stream down below. The song will be available for purchase on iTunes on Wednesday, November 30th and the proceeds will go towards the RED charity that helps to fight HIV and Aids in Africa.

Tribute albums can usually suck…unless, of course, certain artists perform on said album then it can significantly suck less. Case in point, down below you can check out Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode and The Killers all covering tracks from U2′s Achtung Baby for AKH-toong BAY-bi Covered, the album that celebrates the 20th anniversary of U2′s memorable album.

NIN takes on “Zoo Station” whilst Depeche Mode and The Killers give their interpretations of “So Cruel” and “Ultraviolet (Light My Way)”, respectively. Also, if you haven’t head Jack White’s rendition of “Love Is Blindness” then you should spin that a couple hundred times before rocking these tracks.

AKH-toong BAY-bi Covered is available with the newest issue of Q Magazine which is currently out.

Nine Inch Nails, The Killers, Jack White appearing on U2 tribute album

We’ve talked about this album before. Jack White, Patti Smith and Damian Rice would be covering songs from U2′s Achtung Baby for an upcoming 20th anniversary tribute album. But we’ve got the full tracklisting now and it’s way more interesting.

Nine Inch Nails, The Killers, Depeche Mode, Garbage, Snow Patrol and more will also appear on the album, cleverly dubbed Akh-toong Bay-bi, just to help out those who can’t pronounce the first word of the album properly. Q Magazine will be releasing the tribute album along with their new issue which is out on October 26th. The full tracklisting for the album is down below.

To further celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album, the U2 documentary, From The Sky Down, will premiere on Showtime on October 29th.

Thanks to the eagle-eyed Consequence of Sound, we got our hands on some footage of The Killers performing a brand new song at a show they played in London. Up top, you can hit play to see the band perform a new track called “The Rising Tide.” Looks like The Killers are starting to slowly come out of hiatus but…Brandon Flowers may wanna work on staying in tune a bit on the new material so as not to give a bad first impression. Check out the song while you wait for the band’s next album.

The Lollapalooza festival isn’t that far away. It takes place on April 2-3 and…it’s in Chile? Well that’s certainly nowhere near Chicago.

Lollapalooza Chile, which is an offshoot of Perry Farrell’s Windy City-based summer music festival, is being held for the first time in Santiago and the line up is quite stellar (via CoS). The Killers are coming off hiatus to headline the fest along with Jane’s Addiction, Kanye West, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, 30 Seconds To Mars, Deftones, The Flaming Lips, The National, 311 and more.

As the holidays draw nearer, bands are coming out of the woodwork with songs to get you into the Christmas mood. The Killers released “Boots” on November 30th and now Coldplay wants to warm your heart with “Christmas Lights.”
