The newest episode of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain piqued my interest primarily because Josh Homme, frontman of Queens of the Stone Age/Them Crooked Vultures, was the special guest on the episode. And besides seeing Bourdain and Homme drink, eat and fuck around in the Northern California desert for an hour, Homme also recorded some music for the episode.

While I’m not sure if that soundtrack will ever see the light of day, up top you can check out b-roll of the episode that features an original track by Homme. The slow-grinding western influenced tune easily compliments the scenes of the desert unfolding before your eyes at different speeds. In other words, an acid trip is what you need to take the sounds and visuals to the next level. You should call your dealer right about now.

Down below, you can also check out a clip of the show that fuses No Reservations with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Curious? Yeah, watch and see.

Well here we are again. The time when the old, white men of the recording industry decide to bestow their blessings on artists who they feel should get a Grammy award while the rest of us pull out our hair because the real talents didn’t get any recognition.

We should first be proud, however, that Arcade Fire are up for Album of the Year with The Suburbs and Florence + The Machine and Mumford & Sons are up for Best New Artist. It’s talent that definitely deserves recognition as well as the actual Grammy but my money isn’t on them. It’ll go to a pop artist like Justin Bieber or a country act like Lady Antebellum because that’s just how it is with these award shows. It’s a sad fact that we must deal with but it also keeps us bloggers fired up to promote good music.

But there are little rays of light that continue to give me hope. Rockers from Them Crooked Vultures to The Black Keys to Neil Young and many more were nominated this year as well. So let’s not waste anymore of your time and get to the noms that matter, shall we?
Sad news coming from the Eagles of Death Metal. Their bassist, Brian O’Connor, was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery today. He’ll start chemotherapy in three weeks. Never fun.

But the rock n’ roll community is a tight one and some friends of his are coming to his aid. Them Crooked Vultures will hold two benefit concerts, one in London and one in Los Angeles, to raise money for Brian’s medical expenses. The show in London will take place at Brixton Academy on July 5th while the show in L.A. has yet to be determined.

Eagles of Death Metal are currently on tour and will continue on schedule with Dean Fertita (Dead Weather/Queens of the Stone Age) filling in on bass.

O’Connor released a statement thanking his friends and family for their support:

In regards to my current health situation, with the remarkable support and love from my amazing friends and family, I am receiving the best medical and moral attention one could ask for. I cannot thank everyone enough for their continued support and involvement. I am excited for my full recovery and look forward to getting back to what I love most, melting face with my bass. I’m feeling great, after all, I am half unicorn. Keep ya posted.

Them Crooked Vultures made their way to record store shelves but try as I might I couldn’t get my hands on a copy of their EP (and I really tried…like I went to five stores and no one had it.)

Luckily, my good friends over at Some Kind Of Awesome posted one of the songs for download. It’s a live version of the song “Hwy 1″ which isn’t on the debut album but I got a good feeling it’ll be on LP #2 since it’s an incredible song. Ask Johnny Firecloud over at Antiquiet. He’ll agree with me

TCV recently played a kick-ass set over at the Coachella festival from what I’ve been told. So click play down below to get an idea of what hearing them live is like.

With the formation of Them Crooked Vultures, fans were happy to see Josh Homme, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones team up. But they also wondered what would happen to their other favorite bands these men were a part of.

Well we know that nothing is happening with Led Zeppelin anytime soon. The Foo Fighters have begun work on their next album and now we’re happy to say that Queens Of The Stone Age will be back together on stage this summer.

Our boys at CoS have reported that Homme and QOTSA will play three gigs in Germany this August. One of them will be at the Area 4 music festival along with other bands including Billy Talent, The Gaslight Anthem and Blink-182.

In addition to the new shows, QOTSA plans on re-releasing their song “Feel Good Hit Of The Summer” as a special edition 10″ on April 17th aka Record Store Day (this day should start to look more appealing to you as it draws nearer.)

Plus there’s also the possibility of the band doing a tour soon. Homme said in a recent interview that QOTSA would reissue their self-titled debut album this year and follow it up with a tour where the band would play the album in its entirety.

So if you had any doubts about the return of the band that took the #8 spot on our top ten albums of the decade list, then put your fears to rest. They’ll be back soon. In the meantime, watch the video down below of Josh Homme explaining how important Record Store Day really is.

QOTSA 2010 tour dates:
8/20 – Oberhausen, DE (Area 4 Music Festival)
8/24 – Berlin, DE (Zitadelle Spandau)
8/25 – Hamburg, DE (Stadtpark)
