When Thom Yorke isn’t fronting Radiohead or his side-project, Atoms For Peace, he takes to the decks and transforms into a full on DJ scattering digital bleeps and bloops all around the venue.

He went into DJ mode last night in Los Angeles at Transmission LA: AV Club, a 17-day arts festival at the Museum of Contemporary Art (via CoS). Yorke and RH producer Nigel Godrich performed a set which included brand new songs from Atoms For Peace which may possibly be on the band’s forthcoming album. Check out footage of Yorke and Godrich below.

Is there a font that can also convey how big of a smile I have on my face? Someone let me know because that font is necessary for this post.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke revealed that the band would be recording all new material this winter. Yorke said, “We can get things together quite rapidly at the moment,” and mentioned the name of a brand new song called “Come To Your Senses.” He said, “We have this version of it. It’s a five-minute rehearsal, but it has the essence of what we need.”

“There are a few of those,” he added. “It would be fun to have them ready when we go to play next year. I don’t know how we would release them. It would be nice to make it all part of the flow and just enjoy it – not think about it too much.”

As for those 2012 tour dates, Yorke says “It will be sort of on and off, with big gaps. But not that big.” So you can expect me to be at any and all NY/NJ dates for sure.

But that’s not all! In addition to new music and touring next year, Yorke said that the new Atoms For Peace record will be out sooner than we think. Longtime Radiohead producer/Atoms member Nigel Godrich said “The idea was to generate the music, then record the band. We did that. Some of it worked. We also went back to some of the electronic stuff. It’s still in flux. We’re waiting for the lightning bolt to strike.”

So on Tuesday, to celebrate the release of the Radiohead remix album, TKOL RMX 1234567, Thom Yorke decided to man the decks for a live DJ set on The Boiler Room website. In case you missed it you can watch it up top. And if you’re a big fan of DJ Yorke, you can download his entire set on iTunes.

Furthermore, Yorke will continue sowing his DJ oats when he releases a new mix on BBC 6 Music on Sunday at 8:00 pm UK time (3:00 pm EST). Down below is a brief teaser of his set.
Yes, it’s another Radiohead post, but you knew this one was coming. Thanks to The Audio Perv, up top you can check out Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead play “Give Up The Ghost” from The King Of Limbs on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

It’s pretty sweet when these minimal performances from Thom and Jonny happen. Even though it’s just the two of them, some of the biggest and most memorable sounds can be made. Need another example? Watch their performance of “Faust Arp” which was shot for their Scotch Mist webcast when the band released In Rainbows.

Radiohead is expected to tour in 2012 in case you missed their performances at Roseland Ballroom last week. Don’t worry, I’m waiting for those tour dates to come out and I went to a Roseland show.

While many people are still freaking out over Radiohead coming to New York City and becoming the hottest ticket of the year for two nights, the Thom Yorke side project, Atoms For Peace, is continuing to bubble up slowly.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Red Hot Chili Peppers/Atoms For Peace bassist Flea said that the album came about after the group finished their brief tour. “We went into a studio for three days and just jammed – totally improvising,” Flea said. “Thom and Nigel [Godrich] have taken that stuff and done shit with it. I’ve heard little bits and pieces. I have no idea when it’s going to come out. Not real soon though.”

He won’t really talk about what the album sounds like, however, saying “I kinda feel like it’s not really my place to talk about that stuff. The mystery should be the mystery.”

But he does have a deep feeling that Atoms will tour again. “I hope that happens. I just have a warm place in my heart and my mind and my balls for the whole fucking concept.”

As if Radiohead taking over New York City next week wasn’t big enough, frontman Thom Yorke gave us fans a couple more reasons to smile big. Yorke made the announcement on Gilles Peterson’s show on BBC Radio 1 that RH would tour in 2012 in support of their album, The King of Limbs.

“The idea is to go out and play next year on and off during the year, “said Yorke. “It feels like a good idea now that we figured out how to play it to go and do it in front of people for a bit.” The singer said that the band got the idea after playing their set at the Glastonbury festival earlier this summer. Yorke also said that Portishead’s drummer, Clive Dreamer, who played drums with the band at Glasto, would hit the road with them next year.

But that’s not all! Yorke’s band, Atoms for Peace – featuring Flea, Nigel Godrich, Mauro Refosco and Joey Waronker – will be releasing an album. It has no release date as of yet but Godrich is currently finishing up the album.

“It was initially for fun to play all the Eraser stuff, but it sparked something off,” Yorke said of Atoms. “So we ended up at the end of that getting into the studio and generating some new beats.”

Listen to Thom Yorke’s interview with Peterson at the BBC Radio 1 website for a limited time.

Nope, this is isn’t Thom Yorke’s cover of the Chubby Checker classic. The Radiohead frontman dropped his own mix, dubbed the “Moneyback Mix,” on Mary Anne Hobbs’ show on XFM and decided to drop one of his own unheard tracks for the listening public. It’s called “The Twist” and…well…it’s different. That’s for sure.

Listen, I call myself the biggest Radiohead fan on the planet and when one of your musical heroes falters a bit, it’s tough to call them out because your heroes aren’t supposed to do any wrong. But this song is the equivalent of a DJ vomiting his darkest thoughts onto the mixing board and then editing the track while on loads of molly. It just doesn’t fly.

I know Yorke is sowing his DJ oats these days and is down with cats like Flying Lotus and occasionally spins live but…no, I can’t bring myself to like this. Check it out down below if you want and then check out his full mix underneath that.
Need some new beats to skitter around to? I bring you two tracks from Modeselektor’s forthcoming album, Monkeytown, called “Shipwreck” and “She” (courtesy of 107.7 The End).

Here’s the thing. I love Radiohead hence Thom Yorke is a hero of mine. But these “songs” if that’s what you want to call them…yeah, they don’t do it for me. Looped beats and Yorke doesn’t even sound interested in singing on the tracks. If you like them then enjoy. I’ll just keep listening to The King of Limbs if I want songs along these lines.
