Trent Reznor not nominated for an Oscar this year

Remember last year at the Academy Awards when Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won the Oscar for Best Original Score for The Social Network? That was fun to see, wasn’t it? Sadly it won’t be happening again this year.

It looks like the Academy is over and done with dark, brooding, digital, industrial scores and is going back to honoring the classic sounding scores. Reznor and Ross didn’t get nominated for their work on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo while legendary composers like John Williams (War Horse, The Adventures of Tintin) and Howard Shore (Hugo) have been nominated.

Furthermore, other artists that the blogosphere holds in high regard were also snubbed of nominations this year as well. The National, Zooey Deschanel and Jónsi of Sigur Rós weren’t nominated even though they made the initial short list of nominees. However, Bret MacKenzie of Flight Of The Conchords did get a nomination for his song “Man or Muppets” from the movie The Muppets.

If there’s one thing I love more than Zooey Deschanel…it’s multiple Zooey Deschanels!

Which is why this music video for She & Him’s “Don’t Look Back” is a dream come true for me. The clip, which is based around 1950′s promo films for the “modern” era, features Deschanel cloning herself and singing backup on her own vocals while M. Ward lays down a dancey guitar rhythm. Oh, if only the ’50s were really like this.

Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard busted out a triple-combo of awesome at a recent acoustic show at Seattle venue The Croc. He played a new Death Cab song, covered Radiohead and brought out his hottie wife, Zooey Deschanel, to duet with him.

First up, Gibbard rocked a new song from Death Cab’s forthcoming album. He also played an acoustic version of the Postal Service song “Such Great Heights.” Following that, he sat at a piano and performed his cover of Radiohead’s “All I Need” from their album In Rainbows. Finally, in a moment that got the most applause, Deschanel joined Gibbard on stage and they did a duet of The Searchers’ “I’ll Never Find Another You.”

The performance was for Teen Feed, a charity that helps Seattle’s homeless youths and is run by Gibbard’s sister, Megan. Check out the songs down below courtesy of 107.7 The End.

Singer-songwriter/monster-folker M. Ward and indie-movie pixie/Ben Gibbard’s wifey Zooey Deschanel have brought back their duo She & Him with some new music for us.

If ya head on over to Pitchfork, you’ll get to check out their brand new song “In The Sun”. It’s a track from their upcoming album which hits stores on March 23rd that features 13 new songs from the dynamic indie duo.

In addition to the new record, a couple of tour dates have been released (via CoS) and you can check those out down below. They’ll also make an appearance at SXSW in March as well as a show at Coachella and the Savannah Music Festival. But we get two shows in NYC because…you know…we’re the cool city.
